Thread: states questions

I remember reading some musings that state stickyness is related to to the damage done by the shot - I presumed it was just coralation (sp?) - the shots with stickier states are 'better' and as better shots they also have higher damage multipliers.

But the question has stayed with me so thought I'd ask - has anyone tested state application and stickyness using different guns? does my speedy, damage-as-much-as-a-kitten-lick dh17 apply states as well as a laser carbine?

More state musings -

When fighting one-on-one, presuming you're buffed and food-filled and not worrying about HAM costs, do you still use FAA1 and Wildshot 2 or do you switch to FAS1 and WS1 (do they lay stickier or longer states that make up for thier extra reload time or do you always use the singles against single targets?)

Lastly, Action 2 & 1 vs Surpression 2 & 1 which has the best posture down? I haven't shot AS1 in months so it could be a lurking posture down monster, and S2 has a pretty huge reload time so it would have to be a really, really good posture down to make it worth the 'effort' ...

I appreciate it if anyone knows this. I'm also open to donating some time if anyone needs a testing partner to do further research.

I think there was some unofficial testing done for other professions which confirmed that state stickiness is indeed looselybased on the damage dealt when inflicting the state, though if I remember correctly, much of the mathematics behind it pointed towards the nature of the state (as in a Carbineer's Dizzy versus a TK's dizzy) and the opponent's ability to recover from the Dizzy effect (which may or may not be linked to the persons Combat equilibrium or defense vs dizzy, for example.)

It's also been unofficially tested that your chance of applying states depends on your accuracy, so that while you may not be missing any shots, the fact that a state would "appear" after the 3rd time instead of the first was due to your Accuracy modifier.

As far as FAS1 and WS1 and SuppFire1 go, I personally use FAS2 and WS2 and SuppFire2, simply because of the 'damage stickiness' argument, in case its true. Even if it's not, I've generally had more luck with these (from personal experience), and since we aren't given the exact specifics of how well they inflict states/posture changes, I pretty much go with my gut feeling.

At the end of the day, though, whether specials have more "luck" or not affects very little in how effective we can be. Essentially, if you can Stun your target and have high accuracy, you'll do fine and will not notice a difference for other states/posture changes. If you can Intimidate them, even better

Stick with what you prefer.. for me its the AoE specials for some reason.. I guess I just put some faith and trust into the developers in that they made the "version 2" special better than the "version 1"

Don't expect anything from the CU as far as news goes.....

But if you watch TC Patch Notes then you will see what is coming

I wonder how it must feel to be TA. He must feel like having a big secret and then having to sit on his hands because he can't tell us about all the love we are going to get. I wish they would allow you guys to give us more info. All the correspondents when they read complaints and problems, smile with the composure of a jedi master and say, "All will be well." Then smile with a twinkle in their eyes.

Thanks for the response Adm.Spy, gut feelings of experienced players are about as good to have as testing, it's appreciated. I STILL haven't let go of my BH carbines line (prying my fingers off it slowly...) but it will happen soon, so I really need to brush up on my carbineer techniques. Thank god I saved all my speedy carbines I used to climb with, going to be dusting those off too...

TA thanks for reminding me the soeLord has said the glorious coming of the combat upgrade is nearly at-hand and that i shouldn't spend too much time puzzling on the current combat systems, 'tis truth what you speak. And I'd like to suggest that all those pesky NDAs wouldn't be harmed a bit if you ever came up to me in-game and just, you know, whipered a few things in my ear. So far the alpha testers have fewer leaks than your average top secret national security assessment, which is just not fair, you realize you're making the Pols and Military Brass (in America at least) look bad with your tightlipedness. NOT very nice of you. Think of them, the poor tots, next time when you're deciding what to say to whom ... < jk >

Hehe. Yeah, I'm trying to convince the few Carbineers on my server to drop BH as well in favor of something more balanced, like defenses or even Medic.. but it all boils down to speedcapping, essentially.

I sure do miss the accuracy, though. Just about everyone I go up against has heavy KD defense (or eats KD food), which means that even with all states and them kneeling, I have to rely on raw damage and DoTs to take them out. I'm finding the KDs less and less effective as a whole.. I remember when I used to always KD my opponent, even as a simple Master Carbineer.

Templates have changed though, as do tactics, and like you, I can't wait for the CU to bring forth even more. It's always exciting to toy with new strategies and templates.. I guess I'm a math nut when it comes down to it, which is why Carbineer suits me so well, heh.

Thanks for the gentle replies.....some other Corrs don't get treated as nicely.

And yes it does KILL ME to not explain even the concept level stuff to all of you. But honestly the Devs are doing the right thing because they are leaving EVERYTHING open to change thru the Sandbox testing. So it wouldn't be fair to you or them if they were specific at this time, since it is likely to change based on our testing. It is really the correct way to do the CU and communicate it, no matter how frustrating it seems.

But I will give you guys one piece of info......

I have not YET changed my buying of loot Carbines or loot SEA's or high-end armor/PSG's or even considered changing either of my templates.....YET......but don't read too much into that either

Good.

As a defensive Carbineer, I like my template just the way it is, heh. While tackling on new and different opponents will be fun, personally, I'm just looking for a passive boost as far as Carbineers go so that little effort is required on my part.

My guess is that you will want to change some things once you see the CU hit TC.

A lot of things will be balanced, including the relative "strength" in Defense Stackers vs. Offense Stackers.......damn, wish I could say more, but anything more would just be me hoping in what will happen, since we haven't logged in to the Sandbox yet to TEST.
