Are they carbineers or rifleman?
Kind of hard to tell the difference, those E-11's look similiar.

Both
The NPCs stormtroopers use DLT20 rifles and E-11 carbines. If you are Imperial and have a stormtrooper faction pet, take it into a house you own, make sure he has the E11 out, and type /open on him. You can see the stats on his gun, and it is definatlyacarbine.

judging by the movies they are both, they use carbines and rifles, but mostly carbines.

From my understanding, carbines are pretty much the "assault rifle" of SWG, kind of like M16 for the U.S. Army. As with any army, you have an assortment of infantry and rifleman.
What I wanna know is, where are the heavy gunners. You know, the representations of the guys that carry the M249. Machine gunners. I wanna fight them.

When the Falcon leaves hoth, you have 2 snowtroopers run in and set up that huge gun. This looks pretty equivilant to a .50 cal machine gun team today. no quite your answer, but I think it shows there are more than just carbineers and riflemen in the stormtrooper squads.

^ Yep, the E-Web. Be interesting if there were NPC's or even players in special occasions using those.

Squad leaders want to be able to place the E-web. After that they should be useable by SL and Commando's. I like that idea, give them some more use

What surprises me is how fast STs will drop their carbines and slug it out hand to hand when they get too close to a target. I would think they would keep the gun up to when you are in their face.
They must be riflemen/carbineer, commando feild tactics (oddly they seem to like glops over imperial detonators)and TK novices. I hear dark troopers take a shine to the stun baton though.

It is just the AI. Before they switched weapons they would start with a carbine, and when the target moved closer they would move back. It lead to battles running across the whole planet when you had a melee against a ranged. Each AI would try tomaintain its ideal range so the melee would move in and the range would fall back to be at ideal. One time my faction pet ran about 2Km trying to keep the ideal distance from a creature, it was funny to watch, but sucked walking back due to no speeders at the time. I'd like to see them switch the TKA ST to pistoleers, then at least there would still be blaster fire, and a pistol might be effective in melee range.
