Well after 6 months of being a pikeman, dot whoreing and bieng l33t and blah blah all that crap. ive decided to do sumthing much more fun. now imo carbines has always been the coolest ranged prof, and hopefully with the CB they will be a little more balanced, so as we speak im selling all my speed cap pike gear and dot pikes.
so I need to know what to look for when buying a carbine, whats good stats for an ee3, laser, elite, etc. whats good to ahve in the way of mods, what special moves are the most useful etc. so, can anyone clue me in

well, even though it's kind of boring advice the FAQ is pretty good so it probably IS the best source to begin with.

Although, considering that you are on my server and in the opposite faction, I can offer myself to show you some of the best moves first hand

If you're going JUST master carbineer and not Bounty Carbines, buy speedier carbines or hope for speed slices. If you're going Bounty carbines AND M.Carbineer, Go for damage as usual. Also get used to understanding the difference between stocked and unstocked weaponry. HAM costs are important, and while stocks add 50 damage to min and max, they increase HAM by roughly 30, which is the difference between 120 action per special and 250 per special. If you fight buffed, then don't worry about it.
Carbineer is not l33t as a profession as pikemanbut I wouldn't go Juuuust far as to say we're unviable in normal PvP. You can't touch jedi, and you'll have a HELL of a time with Melee stackers, because our defenses are basically swordsman with more counter-attack with less defense Vs. mods, you'll wanna become a Master Kiter too, if you aren't going Bounty Carbines, i'd reccomend going Exploration 2-4 anyways, for the running bonuses

one word:
buy a kreayted DH17 snub-nose!
ok, so that was 5 words but u get the point, they KILL un-armored things like no-body's biz!
but over all a good laser carb will be your best friend. on my server at least a good one should have a speed of atleast 3.4 before slice, if u can buy a krayt one of these too

I'm a M Pike/ Carbs 4424 currently, working on M Carbs.
Carbineer is, in all around PVE (buffed) the same, maybe a little worse than Pikeman. This is because of the AOE dmg radius limitations, lack of /center and /intimidate, speed problems and need for continual kiting.
In PVP, without pike DOTs, I like carbs better because of the state effects. Pikeman with DOTs are clearly superior, although I have a Mind Fire DH17 that's almost as good as my mind poison NS Lance.
When buying a Carbine, low speed is all you should really care about unless you have a ton of CA/AAs. It's very difficult to cap.
I normally use /legshot2 when buffed and /burstshot1 when unbuffed (I have Nov Medic for heals).
/shrug
Carbineer and Pikeman will get much needed changes in the CB, so everything will need a rewrite then. Or at least they better, because having both of the worst combat professions blows. I like the template, but... not for pvp.
