Thread: Carbines or rifleman that is the question?

Just mastered carbines and rifleman on tc-gorath and had a play nuking a few imps and noticed that if i want to take out the troops around the base im best off shelving the carbines and using a rifle.

Even without using conceral shot rifles appears to be far superior in every area, i was fighting a load of storm troopers with a laser carbine and it taking a while, ok i had a bit of fun knocking a load of them down at a time and landing states on them, but i could have pulled out my t-21 and destroyed them in second's.

If you can destroy your enemy in seconds then their is no need to land all the states on them and the npcs/mobs in which states would be useful are the ones who defences are high enough to avoid the states being landed or have minimal effect.

As for the fight against the at-st the rifle could take it out with relative ease whereas using the carbine i got incapped and had to run from the battle.

As far as things go with my existing character on ahazi i was thinking of going master combat medic (which i already am) and then taking up carbines (which im currently novice) now im thinking that with out the defences which master pistoleer, master rifles, and master carbines (my tc template)give me i would need a combat profession which enable me to stand a chance in pvp and pve at present after using carbines and trying out all its specials and all the tactics i can think of i dont see the point in carbines when the other ranged professions such as pistols with excellent professions and rifles with excellent offensive abilities.

As for the ability to land states any half decent pvp'er will have enough defences to counteract any state i can land on them and of course without being able to do stun damage, which is very useful in pvp, i cant see its viability.

Of course my reasons for going carbineer were to get a more star wars like feel to my character and participate in GCW, but i also want to be able to contribute to GCW and i feel rifleman ios a far better choice for this rather than being the anoying mosquito sitting on the sidelines.

Really what are the pro's of being carbineer in:

  1. PVP

  2. PVE

  3. Large scale battles

  4. As a single combat mastery

  5. Against high level mobs (nightsister elder, krayt's)

I still want to be carbineer though at present im a little disappointed in it, if people can give me their thoughts on carbineer and why they think it is better to rifleman as a ranged profession ( yes i know these 2 professions fight very differently though at present the style of fighting which favours the carbineer appears to ineffective in comparison to rifleman and pistols).

I do know that the CU is on its way and ive seen the new weapons that carbines are going to get and the new damage types which they will be bringing but these are not here yet so lets keep it to how things are now not how they may be.

I'll be honest with you, right now rifleman is head and shoulders above the rest of the ranged professions. About the only thing that carbineers have over riflemen is posture changes and KD's, but in my experience in PvP most people have enough stacked defenses tonullify posture change and KD attempts.

Why didn't I stay a rifleman? I thought it was boring as hell. Way, way too easy.

I would really appreciate knowing despite its shortcomings do any of you carbineers, whose only combat abilities are carbineer and not mixed with brawler type professions and other ranged or BH profession, have any luck in high level pve (krayts, nightsister elders and so on) and at pvp (against stackers and non-stackers).

Well that is a loaded question.....taking a 93 Skill Point Carbineer vs elite PvP templates using 250 Skill Points.....well NO we don't fair well unless you have 90% Comp Armor and PSG, because with that even a pure Crafter can last in PvP....but that is comparing Apples to Oranges

As far as PvE, well as the FAQ states, we don't have damage types for some of that.....and high level PvE should and will require groups, not solo play.
