Thread: Thoughts on 'CrippleShot'

This Carbineer attack is great and hits with a lot of power. I have always had some thoughts on this attack though with regards to its ability to target specific stat bars (ie it cant). I watch many other elite professions and observe their ability to target mind or health with their attacks, whittling their enemies down on that targetted bar to the point of death. When I use Cripple Shot I wince as it hits Action, then Mind, then Health then back to any other random stat bar as though I am a drunken gunman with blurred vision.
We have attacks specific to the Action pool to be sure such as Leg Shot 1-3 and Action Shot. They are both useful attacks and I use them often. However Leg Shot 3 doesnt seem to pack the punch that Cripple Shot does and in keeping with the spirit of our profession would love to see this attack specifically target the Action pool. Many timesI have looked up from my corpse at my enemies HAM to see a ragtag exhibition of damage over all areas and realised that had all of my Cripple Shots hit the Action pool he would indeed be dead.
By definition the word 'cripple' or 'crippling' by its very nature asserts a profound restriction in movement or ability to carry out actions. Someone may be crippled but still be in relatively good health or be physically crippled but still have their mental faculties in perfect working order. Thus by its very definition I think that Cripple Shot should target the enemies Action pool as it is designed to restrict movement rather than debilitate the mind or general state of health.
Just my long time thoughts on this technique that I have harboured and felt like sharing. Any thoughts or comments?

It's just a balance issue.
All of the combat elites have their most damaging special as a random-HAM attack, with pool-specific attacks using a much lower multiplier.
Among the ranged elites, crippling shot can be compared to stopping shot or advanced strafe as the professions's highest damage mod special. Advanced strafe has the distinction of being a cone attack, but in its defense it is a master level special while crippling shot and stopping shot are both available in a third-tier box. There are also situations like the Corvette and DWB where cone attacks are a huge disadvantage, which is one reason I enjoy crippling shot and stopping shot being seperate from burst blast and fan shot, respectively.

LegShot3 and even LegShot2 will kill ANY target faster than CripplingShot or any other Carbineer Special for the non-speed capped Carbineer.....I have ran the numbers a couple times here and they are linked in the FAQ too

F find combining scatter2+crippling mixed in the spam working quite well, since scatter2 will hit all 3 pools with slightly different strengths then crippling will hit each pool randomly to speed up the drain.

I don't mind the crippleshot not being a specific Action blow. It least it's counter-effects are not so crippling as the trio of legshots that seem to be more crippling to me when used in succession. I use LegShot3 too many times and it kills my mind that is somewhat protected with a mind buff and brandy. I would not want to imagine how crippling the crippleshot would be if they did make it an action hit, half the mind goes away? lol
