Okay so I'm dropping tailor for a little while to master carbineer. I've got guns to level with, but which gun should I use as a master? I checked the stickied posts and couldn't find any info on guns. Could somebody go over the different guns for me? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks...

I don't think that there is one gun to use at master each have its own use depending of the situation ( a target with armor, no armor, vulnerable to a specific kind of damage and so on ).
By my side, I carry all carbines kind ( but DXR6, I got a Nym ) but I mostly use an Elite.

PS : I am not as experienced in the class as most of the posters on this board.

For me the Laser Carbine is the best weapon. The Medium AP pushes it above the rest IMHO.

But if you fight heavy energy resist mobs you need to use either the EE3 (heat) or DXR6 (acid).

I'm no master but I took the freedome to answer anyway.

I agree with him. Go prone pop them with a high damage laser for 2 or 3 shots and then switch to a low speed ee3, dxr6, or elite and kill em off.

laser's your PVE bread'n'butter as stated above, best dps by far of all the carbs, dxr6 is pretty decent and acid (usually quite a bit nicer than slugthrower), ee3's trash but heat so against the very rare target they can be useful...tho generally even something w/ lower heat resists won't justify using the low dps/ap0 ee3. i'd never use an elite outside of PVP...laser's just your better option since it's also energy.

Damn, lol, I had this long reply typed up but it got borked when I hit submit. I'll try to recap what I had written:

There are 4 "must have" carbines if you are a serious carbineer:

  1. Elite

  2. Laser

  3. DXR6

  4. EE3

Other notables: DH17 Snubnose, E11.

I HAD pros and cons written about each of them, but I'm pissed at the forums right now and don't want to re-type them all. If you are genuinely interested in the pros as well as the cons to these weapons, let me know and I'd be happy to re-write it (just not tonight, the 1st try took too long and it was all for not lol). The other guy's replys pretty much sum it all up, I just went into a tad bit more detail.

Another question is are you looking for speed or damage slices and what type of powerups is recommended.

Re: which power/slice

For PvE I am now using all damage slice/powerup. It is easier on the HPS (ham per second).

Damage is a little lower than with speed optimization (at lower levels), but you have less wear on the weapon, and a lower use rate powerups.

I had a time where I used speed sliced carbines with speed powerups, but I went through powerup crates like candy.

For PvP I suggest balanced speed and minimal damage.

Re: which carbins

PvP: My focus is on special damage, and accuracy:
- enhanced E11 carbine (bleed),
- elite carbine (good minimal damage, accuracy, AP1)

PvE: Right now I use..
- DXR6 (22m optimal combat range, low point-blank penalty, acid damage, AP1)
- E11 carbine (30m optimal combat range, quick, AP1)
- Laser Carbine (50m optimal combat range, best DPS, AP2)

All are scoped and damage sliced, none has any weird accuracy add-ons. Those are PvE only carbines.

The DH17 snub/short (25m combat range, quick, AP0) snub is interchangeable with the E11 carbine for a short-range, low-ham, fast firing special spammer. It seems to be easier to find a good DH17 snub/short than a good E11.

I do have a great custom-built EE3 carbine (27m combat range, high damage, AP0, HEAT damage), with stock/accuracy add on, etc.. (looks funny, too), but it is worn down, and the WS who built it for me is on vacation, so I retired it for now. - When buffed up it is a great weapon for leveling up on critters.

If you have no alternate combat skills, you should at least carry 2 carbines, one for close up (DXR6), and one for long range (laser carbine, elite carbine).

I disagree... know the resists on what you are fighting... use the best weapon vs. that target

as for DPS... my EE3 and my DH17Short BLOW AWAY any Laser Carb I've ever used... see TAFirehawk's spreadsheet for your own guns...

for hunting on Dantooine, I use my speed-sliced EE3 vs. quenkers and pikets to GREAT effect as they are vuln to heat

for other mobs I use my speed-sliced DH17Short for sheer volume of fire and excellent accuracy at short/ideal range

my Laser lives on my wall with my Nym's Carbine and my Corsec CDEF... too slow, too erratic and worthless to my play style

If I need Acid or AP I use my DXR6...

also... in PvP the Laser takes HUGE hits from Ranged Damage Mitigation due to its wide damage stats... avg 70-300 ish

if you PvP, use a more consistent weapon like an Elite... avg damage 110-200 ish

Laser will work if you are grinding thru on most things that have 30% energy resist or below. Granted if its above that you should switch. Of course you can switch if they have any resist to energy if ya want. Like last post said Laser = no go in pvp.

<gasp> don't use laser?

i guess i'm just used to sticking to things like nightsisters/kimos/rancors/geono-lab (tho acid is nice against those crazed)...b/c i keep a plethora of laser carbines on me at all times, the medium piercing just can...not...be...beat against high-end content. honestly...i don't carry an ee3. i know it's a sin for a carbineer to not keep all his options on him at any one time...but in reality, anything that's heat vulnerable or ar0 is going to be easy enough to mow down w/ a laser carbine or dxr6 even if they aren't the "best option."

attachments play a big part of that no doubt, so i'm not at all recommending everyone to drop off their ee3 at home...but NOT having a laser? i'd be scared and hide in a corner w/out a laser...
