I have been thinking of buying some armour for a long time, but haven't made up my mind yet.
---
I am looking to buy an armour with low HAM encumbrance and few vulnerabilities, high resists is less important. IMO, Tantel looks quite interesting (however, it only has 3 parts; so you would need to add some other components for legging, gloves etc. Question is hwoever how much damage you get on other parts).
Should have pretty good kinetic resists, since most of the time I die in PvE is from melee damage. Energy is also important.

I use Chitlan(sp?) armor when I have to. I have a macro to put on/take off the armor. I am a CH so I usually have my pet tank for me as I blast away from 30m out. If I do get aggro'ed, I hit my macro and put on the armor. The emcumbrance is big (sometimes it does not allow me to put a peice on because I have wounds), so as soon as the aggro. is dead or off me, I macro back to plain clothes.
I dont use it often, but when I do, it comes in handy.

sounds like what you're looking for is ubese. it is medium weight. (lighter than chiten or composite.) it can have extra protection from kinetic. and if you ask the armorsmith to add a heat layer, it will protect you from just about everything likely to come your way.
and if you don't want to encumber your action, you can leave off the pants and be covered just about everywhere else.

No one seems to suggest Tantel. Hmm.
About adding a protection layer. Isn't that a bug, i.e using a spical protection layer to remove an vulnerability (I think the devs said it was a bug that it was shown as having resists when it din't have).

I use Marine Armor myself. Very nice stuff, like Stormtrooper Armor on the other side of the conflict, it has excellent protection for a signifigantly lower encumberance than Composite. If you're going to stay neutral or don't want to grind through the 17,000 or so Faction Points to get a full set Ubese armor works quite nicely, especially if you're a brawler. I would caution you to stay away from Chitin armor, as it doesn't tend to provice that much protection for the encumberance (although it all depends on the armorsmith who made it).

Using full composite here with resists btw 42 and 79 % depending on the slot (79% helmet),

I dont use armor, I find that a good set of Clothing works well and it does not effect ham cost. Dont just get any clothing find a Master Tailor and have them make you a set of Reinforced Jacket and Pants with upgrade slots in them, Im a CH so I have my pets tank. Just an alternative to Armor.
