Carbineer Archive
Thread: I have a Question...a few even.
Hello all I'm Hajar Starr of the valcyn server. A little background about my character, I use to be a fencer, but they are so terrible that I decided to leave them to come be a carbineer. My character is going to be a Master bio engineer, a Ch and a carbineer.
I plan on atleast getting expert Carbine Marksmanship since from what I've heard crippling shot is the Carbineers best special in terms of damage. My first question is as a 0 3 0 1 carbineer (if I went Master Ch, which I'm still debating) how much damage could I do with my highest dam special, crippling shot? The problem is I really wanted to go 0 3 0 2 in carbineer so I could be able to kd people. To do this though I'd have to drop Master CH. So is Charge Shot1 worth it? Third question, how much damage would I be doing with my best special (crippling shot) as a 0 4 0 2 Carbineer (I could get that if I dropped master ch and creature empathy 4 and 3) ? And my final question do you think I should drop Master CH to be 0 4 0 2 in carbineer or is it just not worth it? By the way, I'm just trying to be able to the most damage with skill points I have available so if you thinks there's another way I could spread out my skill points and I'd be doing more damage please let me know. All comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.![]()

1) the answer is: the damage you will do is HIGHLY variable. i would suggest using a laser carbine (ap2, energy damage, with damage range of 40-250ish i think is about normal) or a dxr6 (ap1, acid damage, damage range of 100-180ish). your best special as far as damage in a single shot is going to be crippling shot with the first template laid out. crippling shot has a damage multiplier of around 7.5...or, i usually do 1500 damage a hit. it takes out a large chunk of your own HAM though. and both of my weapons were top-of-the-line and then sliced for a 33% damage increase.
2) damage doesn't really increase any based off of skills. getting +speed mods can increase your damage per second (dps) and also allow you to use a slower gun that hits harder as fast as you used to be able to use a fast gun with low damage. (umm, yeah.) if your primary concern is being able to kd people, i'd suggest getting burst-shot1 (a tier1 box) whcih has a damage multiplier of around x5, but fires faster and is more HAM-friendly than cripple.
3) i haven't played around with pets a whole lot (just got to tame3/train3 and nothing else) so i don't know how good it would be to have 3 pets out at once. (especially since you'd be limited to a total of CL70 between the three of them.) personally...i'd say grab the master CH until you have enough combat exp for the kd attack, and THEN decide if you really want a kd attack that badly. be warned, the kd attack has forced movement, can only be used while standing, costs high ham, does low damage, and doesn't last long. it HAS been having some 'issues' with the 30-second timer though. (also, i've heard that with the latest publish in TC the ham/damage/time-length have all been tweaked for a better benefit.)
and...i have to say it. i hate the CH profession, but more than that, i hate that the devs have forced us to use them as tanks. and have forced tanks into a necessary role for combat other than death-lottery against high-end mobs. however, i have a friend who's going with the EXACT same template as you and he massacres anything/everything he tries to kill. i don't think he's gone against krayts yet, but kimogila's were dying fairly rapidly =)
I'll give it a shot,
crippling shot is our highest damage special, but without bounty carbine 3 or 4, you will have a nasty delay firing it. Imho fullautosingle 2 (at novice) will serve you just as well, or if you spend the points burst shot is very nice too.
Depending on which carbine you plan on using, your firing speed won't be good. I'll add a few calcs with the standard weapons on starsider (unsliced):
DH17 snubnosed attack speed 2.4 = 2.4-30% = 1.68approxevery 1.7secs you shoot a normal shot
EE3 attack speed 2.9 = 2.9-30% = 2.03approx every 2 secs you shoot a normal shot
Laser carbine 3.8 = 3.8-30% = 2.66- approx every 2.7 secsyou shoot a normal shot.
If I were you, I'd prolly go for the speed line, you should be able to get scatter shot 2 that way, and stick with fullautosingle 2 instead of crippling shot. This will also make you shoot at a decent rate.
Currently I don't think chargeshot is worth dropping master CH for, it does knockdown a target, but they are up before you can shoot again. Though sometimes fullautosingle2 adds a dizzy state on the target.
hope it helps
I'll throw my hat into the ring...
3001.
Scattershot2, +15 speed and the knockdown.
Speed is what increases your damage by increasing your rate of fire.
Crippleshot2 may be the most damaging special, but as others have said it is slow. Scatteshot2 is your best bet since it line increases your speed and the special is very good.
You will have accuracy problems with this build so it will be important that you stay in optimal range for your laser carbine, kneel when you can and buy a short ranged carbine (dxr6, ee3, etc) for when you are in bases or caves.
Getting speed sliced carbines will help you tremendously.
Well, on the Test Center, Knockdown isn't that bad at all. In fact, Charge Shot 1 is alright, since it still goes against the timer. Creature that are KDed stay down for quite some time. While KD, you and your pets could do 50% more damage. Just a thought.
Ah that's sweet, didn't know that chargeshot got fixed from reading the patch notes, guess this brings a new term into play - stealth fix ![]()
Will be nice to try it out on live, sometime next week.
