Thread: Confused about something..(well, many things but just this one for here).
grr..i hate that hit the wrong key and it posts on me.
Anyways.
I am confused about the Melee defense and Ranged defenses, I am a Teras Kasai master, and Master carbineer, i have 62 melee def, and 74 ranged def. (yes, i know i suck..that's not the issue
). Most all of that comes from the TK profession, my confusion comes from something i read stating that Melee def only "activates" if you are using a melee weapon, and ranged only "activates" if you are using a ranged weapon. Is this true? **Yes, i know i probably should have posted this in the TK forum, but nothing but flamers and nerfers seem to post there nowadays, and the people here seem to be better than that
**
Any help would be great, thanks.

Yeah I have to agree - I thought they just capped it so that you couldnt have 9999999 mele and ranged defence... mastering two professions with defences just bought your defence upto the maximum you could possibly have with a single profession.
IMO that would be best.

See to me that makes no sense whatsoever. I train up to TKM (insert whatever melee profession) and get melee defense ( and ranged), and because i pick up a carbine, i supposedly FORGET everything about defendingmyself i ever learned as a TK? sorry, not buying into that one. Just doesnt make sense.

Think of it as not being able to defend yourself as effectively with your hands clutching a carbine than with them free to parry, block, grapple, and so forth. And think ofit as not being able to dodge as easily whilecradleling a firearm andbeing a bit more encumbered. The real reason it's done this way is simply to prevent silly stacking, and to force players to stick with the typicaldefenses available to them from whichever "mode" they're in. It makes it easier for the devs to balance between professions, and to cut down the problem of uberish templates, although whetherthis isa good way to do it is up for debate.
