I had looted a carbine and had it in my inventory for a couple of days. I figured I would give it a try and used to to hit some low lvl creature outside an NPC city. I took one shot, killed the animaland I received a message that I lost 439218 carbine xp points. I looked at my current xp points and my carbine xp is now at 200k exactly.

What happened here? I am so close to starting my force skills and that is alot of xp out the window.

Did you recently drop carbines? What professions are you? I'm master carbineer, but my rifles XP cap is 200K.

same thing happened to me. I won't go into details but here's the facts

I used to be TKM

I had 900k ish unarmed xp saved up

I am no longer TKM, not even Novice Brawler. All my Melee skills have been ditched and forgotten for a while.

I unequipped my Carbine and killed a mob using melee skill (I wasn't thinking about what I was doing)

I lost 900k unarmed xp.

It sucks, but I should've known better.

whatever your cap is for the highest box you have, is what xp you'll sit at

so if your at say like, a lvl 1 box, your cap is 2000 xp

if you have 50k xp stored, your gonna lose 48k because your capped at 2k

Got it.

I did just drop carbines. I am MCM and was MC for a while, but figure I need to be at a closer range to oppenents for my CM stuff so I used my respec to move to pistols. I had not fired a carbine until yesterday when this happened.

Oh well. Looks like more grinding for me.

Thanks all.

It's only possible to store that extra XP (extra as in above your xp cap) if you don't gain XP in that field. An attempt to gain xp when you're already over your cap will reset you to the appropriate max.

Yes, whenever you drop a skill or an entire branch or proffesion even. you keep the xp you built up til you use that skill and BAM. it's dropped down to the max you can save with the skills you have still.

Even if you didn't use a carbine and kept you 900k xp or whatever you had, and decided to take it up.. as soon as you trained one box, you would of lost it all anyways.

Happened to me when I was doing the old grinding proffesion for jedi stuff 2 years ago.. I was so upset I even did a ticket to a CSR.. and they replied with the above info.. I think it's to keep people from grinding out a proffesion, maxing on exp the dropping it, and then later on taking it back up and not having to grind much of the boxes(ie getting some free boxes in on the taking of the proff again).
