Im just wondering if carbine defense is as good as ranged defense or not very good at all. Carbineers dont seem to get that much carb defense so mods it seems would help alot.
Does general ranged accuracy and speed help a lot? I have heard that these mods are almost worthless and are good... Are they worth investing money in?

It depends on what you intend to do with your character.
If your character is going to use Carbines for most or all their work, then investing in Carbine specific mods is a good idea.
Here's how it works:
Carbine Accuracy & Speed is added together to your General Ranged Accuracy + Speed mods.
- Acquiring General Ranged mods is the best bet, since the mods can be applied to all ranged weapons. However, these tend to be expensive. CA's / AA's with significant General XXX mods tend to go for alot of credits, esp. ranged ones.
Carbine Defense is extremely good if you intend to stay with Carbines. Why? It adds whatever total Carbine Defense mods you have to both Ranged & Melee Defenses. This applies to Pistol, Rifle, and Heavy Weapons Defense mods also. But the key is that you get these defenses only with the specific weapon equipped. In contrast, getting Ranged or Melee Defense tapes enhances only one of the values, but the value is applied all the time, unlike weapon specific mods.
- If you're more dedicated to a specific weapon type / profession, investing in ____ Defense mods is easier on your checkbook. Compare in the trade forums skill tapes with ___ Defense mods to Ranged or Melee Defense ones.

im a ch/bh with 2 trees of carbs so I am almost exclusivly using carbines... I understand what you just outlined above im just wondering how much carbine defense actually helps you. Is it as good as ranged defense or what. I was also wondering if ranged speed and accuracy have as much effect on my carbine as the carb speed and accuracy mods... thank you

Carbine Defense simply adds directly to Ranged AND Melee Defense Mods......so it 'converts' to each of those so of course it is as good as Ranged Defense (better actually since it adds to Melee Defense as well).
Conversely Ranged Speed and Ranged Accuracy add directly into Carbine Speed and Carbine Accuracy....so each of those 'converts' to the Carbine equivalent in the formula.
For the most part, the SEA Cap of +25 for each mod is where you need to be with that template.....but the law of diminishing returns is effect for all the formula but the break point is the subject of many opinions and little fact at this point.
