I just got novice carbineer but i don't know what creatures to hunt without buying a buff. I tried hunting banthas but i get incapped quickly because the specials drain me like crazy. What are some tougher animals that can be hunted without being buffed? Also, how should your stat pools be adjusted? should i max constitution and quickness? how should my points be distributed (i'm a human)?

Here are some tips for hunting unbuffed:

  • Get some good Ubese armor with 70%+ kinetic resistance. I think even some of the new Padded Armor has good kinetic resistance. If you have money, get a few suits, and try to piece together a full suit of encumberence sliced armor. I liked to go without a helmet, unless I started taking good hits to my mind pool. This alowed for less mind costs as well as better mind regeneration.

  • Try to pull one mob at a time. Doing this will lower the damage you have to take, as less mobs will be hitting you.

  • Use your specials wisely, and sparingly. Carbine HAM costs are VERY high. Because of this, you must be carefull in the way you use your specials unbuffed. One way I liked to do it,was to use 1-2 Full Auto Single 2s to get bilnd and stun states on your target, then if you can, use Burst Shot 1, use that as your damage dealing special. Do not use Crippling Shot, or Scatter Shot 2, etc, as they have high HAM costs.

  • Carbineers have a wide array of posture controling attacks. Use them. Keep the mobs off of you with specials, and use either Burst Shot 1, Burst Shot 2 (Cone), or your default attack. Alternate your posture down attacks with your KDs every 15 seconds. Though they each have 30 second timers, those timers are independant of each other. Use a KD, then 15 seconds later, use a PD, then 15 seconds after that, the KD will be ready. Rinse and repeat.

  • Adjust your stat migration according to your play style. If you are unbuffed a lot, it is a good idea to get the most out of Stength, Stamina, and Focus. The higher these stats are, the lower your HAM costs will be. If you have medic, minimise your Constitution and Quickness. You don't need to have good regeneration in health and action if you can heal yourself effectively. Also, if you have medic, put a little more emphasis on Mind, Focus, and Willpower.

  • Take along a DH17 or a DH17 Snubnose with you. Out of all the carbines we have at our disposal, these tend to have the best damage to HAM cost ratios.

  • Use Mind Cost / Max Damage or Mind Cost / Min Damage power ups. This will help raise your damage to mind cost ratio, thus allowing you to have more mind pooled to heal yourself.

  • Use a tank. Be it a pet, a droid, or another player, having a tank means that you don't have to worry about taking high amounts of damage. This means you have more HAM to use for specials.

the best way to get through a grind is just get buffed. look at it this way it cost u 10k for a buff...average. go to dantooine mining outpost and stay there, get your buffs from there.. go to a city there by speeder to a city with an improved job market pick up 2 10k piket missions at a time, your buff cost is paid back to u after 1 mission the rest is pure xp and profit. i mastered carbineer in 4 days killin pikets and ended up with lots of cash. adjust all your stats to mind focus and willpower max focus and willpower for sure.thats all u need to do man.

if not pikets quenkers get me a pretty similar amount of xp and the missions are alot quicker, averaging at about a kill after 3 legshots or summin, and i too am at a similar level as you, so if ur still jus novice carb i would avoid the pikets for a wee while because when they gang up on you it jus becomes tedious...especially when they heal the lair!!!!

so quenker is my view and also about the stats arrangement u were on about, i too am wondering what to do but seen as tho most of my fighting is buffed i think i am gonna greatly reduce my health and action and bar and put those points into the mind one so i can special more often and live longer against riflemen

I have been buffed a total of 3 times and have reached Carbineer 3443. Get a good Laser Carbine - with the lowest ham costs if you insist on using your specials - don't wear your armour and stay at 64m whilst your group takes on the Sharnaffs from Coronet. Only shoot them when they are engaed with someone else - and quickly peace the lair when a naff appears. Control who engages you - don't be gun happy - you aint wearing armour! Chat happily with your team mates and enjoy the craic.

Orif your group is a little underpowereduse really high HAM costs Laser rifle, but a high rate of fire and damage spread - and don't use your specials.Wear 70% kinetic Ubese - and help your team mateskneeling infront of naffs!

Switch between these two play style - learning that one or two specials a lair - is possibly too much in armour. However you might be able to sneak in a few good shos when not in armour. As your special lists grow you will learn than a knock down attack, or threaten shot is a good opener o delay the beast and help your friends.

Some days you might be lucky and find a medic trying to grind XP - and he will heal you as fast as you can shoot! Those days are fun and great for testing out the specials.

Make sure you have brandy! And a Neutron Pixie for a get out of jail free card should it all go pear shaped!

The only way I could imagine going unbuffed is with CH Pets. In fact even now that is probably the most fun....armor and buffs have taken away CARBINEER DISTINCTION.....we don't have to THINK anymore so going out unbuffed and "naked" is a nice change

I think the point here is that they want some tips on hunting without buffs, not to be told to just conform to the majority's play style and"just go get buffed."

rogue bagarasets on corellia are fine for me.. give 400 xp each, and there are usually about 10 per lair ifi remember correctly

they're fine if you use posture down attacks so they cant get at you(besides spitting), then 2 or 3 legshots gets em

yea i understand the question at hand. But really what is the point of going unbuffed when really they are cheap, I mean if u wanna take forever to master a profession than by all means do it unbuffed, use stim packs to your hearts content and 3 weeks later of self healing and grinding a slow grind because of lack of special abilities because of high ham costs I am sure you will hate any profession you do this way. Do whatever but being buffed is the best way to grind any profession period. Most people want to master their chosen profession quickly, i know I do anyways. and why not make some credits while doing it.

Nigel

I don’t hear about this armor tip vary often…maybe it’s a secret.

Don’t wear pants, biceps or bracers when unbuffed. The damage taken on those spots will get transferred to other parts of the body. Pants -> boots, biceps --> chestplate, bracers --> gloves. This was done to fix the armor hole bugs. =)

Even if this is true, Tranos and Wookiees still have to wear everything, because we have no gloves or boots.
