Thread: Tips for Building Your own Template...(add your own tips too!)

Hi Everyone! Remember me? =P

Anyways, here's some tips I've discovered after working my way around many professions, back to BH/Carbineer.

Lots of people are building templates bases to fight well, and defend well.

My tip, ignore ranged and melee defense. Why?

Jedi's will hit you 100% regardless of any defenses you have, they seem to be able to do this even at extremely limited strength on their ends.

You can't dodge, block, negate, evade poisons and disease.

You can't seem to avoid Rifleman, or Melee classes when they try and hit you. The only class in PvP that might miss you if you have semi-good defenses are Heavy Swordsman and Pikeman. TKA/Fencers/Rifleman/Pistoleers that dominate PvP will hit you all the time, regardless of your defenses.

With the game as it is, Jedi appear to have been built to never miss, the Developers never did their homework realizing it was ranged professions that actually made the Jedi extinct in the story, Jedi own, and will own ranged professions until they radically alter everything in the CB.

Instead of concentrating on Ranged/Melee Defense - go for getting status effect defenses. Especially against KD/Dizzy/Intimidate.

I know it's tempting to cap defenses at 125/125 if you can, but trust me, I did -- and Rifleman/CM/TKA/Fencers/Pistoleers were always able to hit me. However I learned it was my status defenses that helped me out a great deal more than any melee/ranged defense.

It's sad to hear I know...melee/ranged defenses help you in LOW end PvE, but against Nightsisters, DWB, Corvette, and future updates...everything above a Quenker or Janta can hit you regardless of your defense.

Just some tips I've learned through my ways of the game.

Don't go for ranged/melee defense, go for status defenses. Everyone will be able to hit you regardless, you'll still get poisoned, diseased, and Jedi will still cut swathes through every single class/profession....

Nice. I have been wondering this for some time. Thanks for taking the time to share.

No problem.

I did some major fighting as TKM/MBrawler + Fencer + Pistoleer Defenses (capped all defenses)

And every class could hit me, every special hit me...but the defenses vs status effects saved me from intimidate, stun, blind, dizzy...etc etc.

I hope every Carbineer gets to use this knowledge to help themselves! Fight the good fight my friends!

Tanks just did and interesting test of BH verse various defense builds including a Jedi. It is worth readying. Check the BH forums.

Yeah I saw that.

I'm trying to convince him to test the "normal" Jedi tho who have insane blocks with their crazy TKA/Fencer builds.

Have you tried chomping Pikatta Pie & Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud, and keeping Blind state stuck on em (for all opponents, not just Jedi)?

That'll boost your defenses to about 200, and drop their accuracy by something in the range of 50-100 (I don't know if anyone has been able to test just how much Blind affects accuracy).

"TKA/Fencers/Rifleman/Pistoleers that dominate PvP will hit you all the time, regardless of your defenses."

ummm... I dunno if you were saying a combonation of these classes dominate PvP but if you were saying seperatly... I would like to ammend that pistoleers in no way dominate pvp...I just came from the profession, and pistoleers dont even dominate a gnort.

actually as a former pistoleer from the start of the game i can say i sucsesfully doninated at least one. as for defences he is completly right, i had 120 melee defence and 100 ranged at one point and i don't think i ever didn't get hit. buti also don't think i ever got dizzied or KD'd with +80 dizzy +115 KD +70 posture down...... of course i was a fencer/pistoleer/carbineer at the time, now as a carbineer/BH i can deal out a lot more damage but status effects hit me like crazy and they are not nice.

I don't mean dominate as in..."always win" I mean you see those professions in nearly any major PvP template. My bad choice of wording, sorry.

ah, I see Maestro. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I certainly agree with you about seeing those four in almost every PvP template.

It's cool.

I chose poor wording, after the CB who knows...everyone, and I mean everyone on Eclipse seems to think Carbineers will be the FOTM, so they're getting it now.

While I don't doubt that your research is well-founded and thorough, I'm a bit concerned about the validity of 'always being hit'.

As Master Carbineer and Master Fencer, I have significant secondary stat defenses, as well as Dodge, which seems to currently be the best evasive defense yet. With a gaffi stick in hand, a Jedi will usually only land 1 in 2 hits on me, and the rest of the time, I either 'dodge out of the way', or 'he misses it.'

In PvP, same deal, with either a Stun Baton or Laser Carbine (or other) in hand..several shots will result in the sort of 'dodge' kicking in, while many many others result in my target simply "missing".

I guess it boils down to just what affects misses. It could be that the combat log of 'dodge' actually accounts for "but (s)he misses..", in which case, it would be purely that Fencer boost which makes me evade about 50% of shots, at a minimum. Still, I'm doubtful about that, and the only thing I can fall back on are Ranged and Melee defense.

Why? Because Riflemen/Fencer used to be the best defense stacking profession. Why? Because it put your Ranged and Melee defenses well over 200, and with no cap, you would hardly ever get hit. One of the more loathed but remembered PvPers on Starsider is sort of referenced as having started the Rifleman/Fencer trend within our server community -- people hated him because they always missed their shots, and were effectively nullified by that.

I was just a bit shocked that you claim that Ranged and Melee defense are utterly useless. I'm capped on both, and unless the combat log is truly more broken than it seems (with ScatterShot doing 1 point of damage, it may as well be, heh), I am evading many... many.. shots.

But I agree - focusing on secondary defenses is better. Ranged/Melee defense is overrated.. but is it useless? I don't think so, no.

I am Master Carbineer/4440 Fencer/0043 Pistoleer and agree with AdmiralSpy on this one. I get a decent number of misses which are from the Ranged/Melee Defenses.

But with the current state of Fencer, this is far from the best comparison.....

PST, ScatterShot no longer reports 1 point of damage
