Thread: CARBINE- equivalent to our galaxy's machine gun?

It really helps if you post something in the body of your thread.
Really, though, the Carbine would be more like an Assualt Rifle or Sub-Machine Gun. Look at the Carbines in history, the M1 Carbine of WWII and Korea, it was the smaller version of the M1 Rifle. It was light weight, had a fast rate of fire, long range, but didn't pack much of a punch. Look at the M4 Carbine, the smaller version of the M16. It's the only rifle in the military that has full-auto and is used for assualt. (excluding SAW's, but those are support, rather than assualt).
Anyway, that point I'm trying to make is that the Spraystick (Rifle) is more of a machine gun, ours are used for close range and not accurate over long distances, like sub-machine guns. We don't lay down long shots of suppression fire, like most full-bodied machine guns do.

Carbines are real weapons - the Mausser for instance.
When runninh around pvp'ing the thing in real life that comes closest to carbines, has to be super soakers. You know those big ol' water guns.
anyways I'm no weapons expert, but water guns is the thing I compared me carbines to.

Yeps. JekRendar2 is right about that in RL carbineers.
But inSWG at least i see carbineers more like support persons. We have full auto area, suppression fire and legshot3 at least which are clearly used for area fire. and considering out ham cost we most definatly cant go one on one with anyone.
I been playing in combats in backrow with area fires and i find it very effective. it wont matter even we are doing more damage to ourself thanenemies since we can make huge amount damage to enemies overall. im sure there is noone who feel great seeing areafire hiting 5 or moremobs at once. only thing is always need to remember have some tanking front of you (pet or party members) so are not incapped with one shot.
And based on that i really think we should get some 'real' machine gun certificate from that support tree(one where you get auto areas and support fire). E-web or some other star wars 'machinegun' would be great(greedy :wink

Only thing is that i cant figure what would be good stats on that since SWG code is not supporting any rapid fire weapons(speed cap is 1 or so and only one shot even if animation is showing more as far as i know). clearly it would NOT be any heavy armor piercing since carbineers are anti-infantry not anti-tank.

the carbineer weapons in game are sort of a range of weapon types, the DH17 snub is like a submachine gun, and the laser rifle is like a heavy weapon (anti armor) and our E11's, DXR6, and ELites are close to assault rifles. the EE3 is a giant pistol...i dunno what they were smoking when the artists designed that one lol
