Thread: Weapon Effectiveness Spreadsheet

There's a link floating around out there that contains a web-based damage/second calculator that some people are raving over...I'm sorry...but its not a very good yardstick for measuring and comparing weapon effectivness.

A few months ago this thread was stickied all over the forums. The original post is 3 pages long and explains some mathematics to determine your weapon effectivness based on min/max damage, weapon speed, your speed skill and armor peircing. There's even a way to compare effectiveness while factoring in HAM costs.

I took these formulas and created a spreadsheet where you can enter your weapon/skill info and it will tell you how effective your weapons are. You can compare your weapon to weapon or even see how effective your pets/droids are in combat.

SWGInfo.xls

This is an MS Excel spreadsheet. If you don't have Excel you can go to the Open Office Web Site and download Open Office: its a free 100% MS Office compatible software suite.

I'm providing this here for the Carbineers and to my guild...hopefully my DSL line won't get slammed too hard.

I'd like to see what you got but it won't load.

What do you mean "it won't load"?

Will the spreadsheet not load? Maybe you need a later version of Excel or get Open Office. I just downloaded the file and opened it at work to be sure that the file itself and download site are valid and function properly with Office 2000, Office XP, and Open Office.

I'd be willing to bet you got some kind of issue on your end to work thru.

Sounds like this spreadsheet has already been done.....

Thanks to NOVA for the data

Totally different spreadsheet...totally different data.

My spreadsheet is based on the Volsted Gridban post from a few months ago containing calculations based on SOEs own game mechanics to determine the base effectiveness of a weapon when factoring in min-max damage, base speed, your own speed modifier and AP value. The rating, using his calculations, shows a true base damage/second including Armor Peircing bonus.

What you can do with the spreadsheet I devised is do a comparison of different weapons you own (you plug in actual data from your weapons) to see which is the most effective in sheer damage numbers (not counting damage type). If you're really into math you can take the damage resists of a MOB and subtract the % of the resist from the effectiveness to see how effective your weapon is against that target and compare it to other weapons against the same target.

Also, you determine the base combat effectiveness of your pets/combat droids/faction pets to compare to yourself when using specific weapons.

Mine is totally different data....WOW since mine is based on the exact game data that NOVA has collected....HMMMMMMM

My spreadsheet takes into account armor rating, armor piercing, % resist, damage mitigation and is shown to compare the same weapon against different targets and from weapon to weapon. I removed the summary page in Version 2 as it was not that useful anymore. I have not added the 3/2/1 ratio to hitting HAM yet, but other than that and To Hit I don't know how much more I could simulate/compare the exact in-game mechanics.

I am not saying your spreadsheet is not in line with the in-game mechanics, it probably is, but before you call me a total fool be prepared to back up your discussion.

I took your post to mean different data from in-game, sorry for the confusion. My spreadsheet focuses on specials and not weapons, but my Version 1 did the weapon chart comparison just like yours.
