Thread: So what is Carabineer like?
its... interesting.
At the master level it's quite nice, before that is tough and choosing where to put points is complicated.
Starting off with carbines is rough, but if you stick with it I think you will be pleasantly surprised, despite all the negative opinons about it. Yea, there are a lot of broken shots, but the one's that do work, work great for me. If you do decide to go this route, join up with friends or get some ch experience to help you climb through the lower levels of the carbine tree. That was the roughest part for me to get through. Hope that helps you make up your mind.

It's a painful journey - Always needing doc buffs/food/spices (drugs are bad) just to do specials. 1 of the weakest weapons in game with a very broad range of dmg with a lot of specials either bugged/broken. If you're thinking about doing alot of dmg - I would suggest commando, they're getting defense mods as well as attack mods - making it probably the best combat profession in the game by far.
If you want to be ignored and neglected, then Carbineer is the profession for you. Sad but true
bottom line: Carbineer is a lot of fun, i admit that i too had frustration about HAM and broken shots... but i learned the secret was in fact the laser carb, and charge shot 1... thats all i need... and in PvP... i can take out master BH/Commando/Pistoleers you name it a master Carbineer will have little trouble with them... and to add doc or CH to carbineer... you have got a quite powerful combo...

well, take a carabineer, then decrease its defensive abilities to 0, remove all lethality from his weapons. Make the weapons have limited number of uses, at an increased cost of time and money, and make him hated/feared by everyone on the server for misconceptions about his power. Oh. and add the mastery of an additional profession to the prerequisits.
uh... i hope you're a carbineer, else i have a problem with you saying this O.o i always thought of CM as "a great supplement to another class", but for some this is their main combat class. heh, i assume the original poster just copied and pasted from the carbineer board without changing the name (since i just read the other post), /tsk for you ![]()
if you're looking for the all-powerful combat profession combo, look elsewhere than carbineer and CM. at novice both are somewhat difficult to work with, but they can be fun
the carbine ham cost really takes planning on your part, else you can really kill yourself faster than someone else can kill you. usually it's managable if you have buffs and/or food, they can lower your ham cost to 0. just make sure you don't pick a server that has only 1 master chef, i'm still waiting for my orders ![]()
i've heard that master carbineer is great, but i'm still (sorta) having fun getting there. i think CM is great... possibly because i'm now the only master CM besides the (current) correspondent on the server, but more so because i'm actually useful in big group hunts. heck, my carbine skills aren't good enough yet, and i'm nowhere nearly as appreciated as a doc, but i'm always invited. the medics/entertainers also love me, and is pretty much the only thing my diseasesare good for (sigh).
if you do go carbineer/CM, try what i do: hit them with actionshot1, throw an action poison C, and RUN!
1) Throw Action Poison C
2) Use Action Shot 2
3) Stack Action Poison B
4) Start running
5) Stack Action Shot 1
6) Keep running
7) Incap yourself in at least two, if not all three HAM bars.
8) Examine Sky
9) Watch while nasty critter of choice slowly walks over to you with 1 health
10) Clone
It is actually a lot of fun. I dropped pistoleer for Carbineer to use some remaining skill points - if you have access to buffs you will do more damage with carbineer than pistoleer.
You will find though, that without a well developed combat class, Combat Medic is best used only to *support* groups of 3 or more. CM makes a terrible offensive class if you have nothing else to back it up - be it a combat class, or a group of people to hunt with you.
hehe, i usually don't use actionshot2 if there are other mobs around, i find the area effect sometimes kill me faster O.o i also don't wait for 2 poisons before running, i throw action C, run, then use actionshot1.... use actionshot2 if the coast is clear, then spam burstshot (before i got that, fullautosingle2)
one good thing with CM/carbineer is that you get ample combat xp, and i have the full line of "carbine accuracy while moving"... hmm, i think i'm onto something here ![]()
And yeah I know its offtopic for this forum, but the other CMs here probably know my play style and may be able to offer me a few more insights than the Carbineer forum folks.
Or should I just scrap carbine and (some) doctor all together and go Smuggler x/x/4/x, some Pistoleer, and master CM?
I'm a master CM and a Master Cabineer.
It's a hard life....you have to realize that with the **edit**ty ham costs you rely on your med use ability to heal urself up. and with only +60 speed mods at master you're still slower than a pistol/rifle.
More broken specials than any other class (IMHO)
Of course mind poison is key CM usage in PvP but you have to use Scatter Shot to hit the mind with a carbine and you cant really judge how much mind you are gonna hit for.
KD has an Animation just like throwing poisons so it seems superslow when trying to make a combo.
I don't use cripple shot, Best carbine is a laser and you can't tell if you're gonna get a low hit or a high hit with a laser and cripple shot has a longer delay. I'll use burstshot2 if looking for a hard hit.

well, i only have 1-2-1-4... i was gonna go get cripple shot, but on TC there's ranged mitigation at counter 1, so i decided to get that. prehaps i'll get counter 3for burst shot 2 and mitigation 2before finishing my other trees.
heh, this *is* kinda strange... we started a sorta non-flame carbineer post
i like carbineer, it just takes a bit more that "mash the buttons". from the skill trees it gives me the impression that we're a "running" profession, since we get a whole tree devoted to running O.o it's not a bad combo with CM in PvE. you just gotta run a LOT ![]()
