Thread: Does it get better?

So I'm trying to decide what the future holds for my character. He made master carbineer a while back, but stalled. I was amazed at how little difference I felt in the sorts of challenges the character could take on after making novice.

I know a carbine isn't a heavy weapon, but I get tired of having to solo low-leveled pathetic critters or group with Commandos and Bounty Hunters and watch them shred things to pieces while I ping them with my carbine. I think those guys take me hunting more because I make good bait than because I provide good support!

To those of you who have travelled further into the profession. Do you see the difference? Are you able to take on respectable missions and hold your own in a dungeon/themepark when in a group? It's going to take me a while to climb this ladder, and while I realize it may not be everything I want it to be... I want it to at least provide a little of what I want.

I was considering doing the whole Carbineer/Bounty Hunter Carbineer thing, and either a few levels with the LLC or the Scatter Pistol. I'm just not sure now...

Well I am Master Carbineer and BH 0300 , which give me that extra important speed and accuracy. I mainly outdamage most classes when it comes to hunts. Our KD moves are great support skills and for that Commandos will love you. Will enable them to get in close and do extra damage.

After a KD move I can do up to 5 k damage with cripple shot and after that I mainly use scatter shot to finish of the target.
This works great for me atleast

SHHH we bounty carbine hybrids arent allowed to post on how good a carbine is remember?

Ok back to the original post it does get better with bounty carbine. A lot better cause bounty carbine is fixes what ismissing for carbineer.... SPEED. The first time you spam cripple shot at the speed cap with a good laser you wet yourself. The damage is silly, I can get my group the loot rights to krayts when groups with 2 comandos are competeing and all we have is elites. FireKD is very nice for those that havent stacked there templates to resist it and if they have they go down real quick to a bunch of cripples. I recomend ether bounty carbine 3 with novice medic or bounty carbine 4 with novice ranger and as much tracking you can get. Tracking makes you real popular in huntingparties for Krayts and such.

I've got to agree. I'm Master carbineer, BH 0-3-0-0, and novice medic. Fire knockdown + Charge shot = Godly.. I mean come on, when you can kd a rancor or an AtSt, something's got to be right. And Force Sensitives? They aren't a challenge unless they have 70% resists or better.. Granted, I've never faced anything tougher than a Crystal Hunter, but still. While it don't payoff that great at first, the long hard road is well worth it in the end.

Thanks guys. It does me good to hear some positive feedback, and I am quite happy to hear that my damage levels have a chance of being somewhat competitive as my skill increases. That was a major concern for me, as I sometimes feel like I'm armed with a pea shooter...

I think I'll be trudging forward with this. I'll most likely do the BH deal to get that extra edge. Not sure if I'll hit a secondary class or just throw the last of my skill points in LLC or BH Pistol... but I have a good bit of time to decide on all of that.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond...

well, i'm no BH but i can say i easily hold my own against BHs and commmandos and can do high-level missions. it IS all about the speed of course, and with a good krayt speed-sliced laser carbine I am one of the most sought after members for hunting in my PA.

if you're gonna be group hunting mostly, i suggest going BH carbines. if you're gonna be soloing, i'd suggest doctor or CH to go along with it.

I can tell you exactly what will happen to you.

#1. You surrender Carbines and then give up most of the skill boxes.

#2. Then 3 days later, Sony comes out with a MEGA-patch that finally fixes Carbineers are turns them into an uber profession and gives them some new deadly guns to play with.

This is called Murphy's Law.

Thanks again for the replies. They have been helpful. I have a few followup questions, if you don't mind.

1. ) Which of the first three disciplines do you suggest entering first? I'm having a hard time collecting XP (almost always solo), so I'd like to maximize my effectiveness as early as possible.

2. ) The Bounty Hunter combo is an obvious choice (and the one I was considering), but what other builds have you come up with that work well (especially for a soloist)? I was playing with the idea of Doctor, so that I could prouduce my own buffs. Any thoughts on that?

I do not know how you have setup your player, but to be able to solo a little tuffer critters I quickly went up to CH 1100 in order to use a GSP. Once I got that one everything went as a breeze . I usually huntetd tortons on rori who gives good XP + good money for each mission.

This setup might not be an option because of the upcoming CH changes, but again who knows when they will get live

About what tree to go for first is a matter of style I guess, but before I went Carbineer I was master commando for a long time so I had a lot of combat XP stashed, so I could get charge shot directly which helped me alot. So I went for the tree with crippling shot first. charge shot + cripple shot = dead critters fast

As for the Doctor / carbineer Combo it is rather common and probably a good one. But Once you get up a bit in the trees of carbineer there will never be a lack of cash bacause you can solo just about any missions. And getting Master doc buffs is fairley easy and cheap. Noramlly it would cost you 7 k and lasts a few hours.

So I prefer to buy mine, and spend the points somewhere else.

The effective carbine combos are Carb/CH, Carb/Dr., Carb/BH, or Carb CM. Of these Carb/Dr. is probably the strongest. It ignores the crippling HAM costs of carbine, does full heals in one combat round, and has highly lucrative marketeable services and products. Carb/BH with buffs is the strongest fighter with speed capped cripple shots and a working dizzy special - deadly in PvP. Carb/CH is very strong PvE with good damage output, and very high defensive capability. Carb/CM is extremely group friendly, especially in PvP situations.
