Thread: Goodbye from another master carbineer
i was frustrated before master, when i really really sucked, but now i'm easily the match of a doc/master gunfighter/bh (hardest opponent i've faced). it was close, but i kicked his ass
carbineer is really a good profession once you get it down.
SHHHHH don't say it's good then the DEV's will nerf it.
Don't you know since more things are broken then working they just make everything broken to keep balance?
SHHHH Carbineer sucks! Really nothing works just like everything else. (Except CH and Commando because those are the real Star Wars Heros!)

Changes are coming...
Underpowered and non-balanced classes will likely improve...
Overpowered classes may be brought down a notch...
It might be wise to sit tight and see how the changes shake out...

Anything specific? This has been ongoing since launch. I hope that should they actually fix something, that they don't expect us to be fawning all over them with thanks. The carbineer problems are not subtle, nor are there delicately balanced inter-profession considerations for most of the egregious problems. The Dev's should fix it, and then quite frankly apologize for letting it drag on as long as it did.
I don’t blame people who leave this profession.
At times I think we are only here to make other professions look more appealing because we are so more broken, as with Pikeman. I mean pistoleers won’t even begin to complain or second guess their profession once they see the Carbineer and Pikeman professions. I’m only a carbineer now so when my accounts run out they can go figure why. I used to be a Commando and a Creature Handler and we all know those are the true Star Wars Heroes, they are just so dang good we never seen them in the movies.

Well there is a lot of the 'grass is greener' attitude in the carbineer forum. As someone who just dropped Master Gunfighter to pick up carbines I think you would be surprised just how much is broken in the pistoleer tree. Pistoleers have no useful ranged state attacks (the best ones we have are from marksmen) and that in and of itself makes it a very limited profession. I think that people that dabble dirty fighting or BH pistol tree give the impression that pistoleer by itself is more powerful than it actually is. Both BH and Smuggler give you cool special attacks that just are not there in pistoleer. Fan Shot is cool as hell and Stopping Shot is useful with a fast gun but I'll trade those forthe KD attacks carbineers have anyday. Matter of fact I did hehehe.
Not saying Carbineer isn't really screwy in some ways, cuz it is. The HAM costs are ridiculous, but I pop food to deal with that and can spam specials at essentially no ham cost. I understand that you shouldn't have to buff up just to use a weapon (or to put on armor for that matter) but food/buffs is an easy workaround. I'm loving my state attacks and I can't wait to get charge shot.
And just to reiterate, Iwas not a DF or BH dabbler. Pistols/Pistol Skillscan definately be uber but I am a Master CM and don't have the skill points to put into every pistol skill under the sun. As someone making a choice between JUST master pistoleer or JUST master carbineer (I hate the beat a dead horse but so many people don't see the distinction between dabblers and 'pure' pistoleer/carbineers) I'm picking Carbineer and am really enjoying myself despite its shortcomings. I'll take AP2 and a no timer KD move over random HAM attacks at the speed cap any day. Plus in PVP situations action damage is better than health because most professions specials pull from action.
So yeah a lot is broken and the devs need to get stepping but I hope everyone is aware that just about every profession is 'broke' in one way or another. Pistoleer is easier, but carbineer has the potential to be much more powerful if you can deal with its problems.

I hope you aren't counting on that to keep you in the profession. All of the specials that specifically target the action pool are broken. The leg shot specials are worthless. The only specials worth using are those that target random HAMs.

We have lots of potential for being a good class, that doesn’t resolve around buggy moves.
They better not fix the so called buggy knock down because in my experiences it doesn’t knock them down for but .25 seconds. The melee pistol attack 1 knocked down for 5 seconds or so, enough to get in a good attack or two while down. I would call it ranged stumble attack not a knock down. Or even an attack that keeps them from moving any closer because I still get shot from them while they ‘stumble’. If they remove that move in additional with the new level 10 non-CH non-armored pets we are going to enjoy doing nothing but getting slaughtered in solo PVE. I think rifleman feel this pain too.
I guess if balance means less enjoyment then so be it, I’m sure the server will have a lot less latency with all those canceled accounts. I have an idea let’s just go Commando and Creature Handler like everyone else, and then we can go camp high end mobs and justify it with used skill points instead of faction points.

Its all relative, Pistoleer is IMO just as bad about lacking a good targetted ham attack. Its pretty much the same situation where the one in the marksman tree is just as good as the one in the pistoleer tree (bs 2 and 3 I mean). Although there is supposed to be a slight benefit to BS3 once you hit master and approach the cap.
And as far as pmdknocking down for 5 seconds, at the time I dropped Master Gunfighter it seemed like it was working more like what you are describing with Charge Shot. I remember it used to be good for dropping something then Stopping Shot it for big damage but it seems like it changed at some point and the KD duration was too short to be much of a benefit. All that AND you wear out your weapon each time you use it.
I had fun as a pistoleer and like I said fan shot rules, especially with an uber gun. But that profession has its problems too and I stand by my opinion that if you can workaround the limitations of carbineer its much more powerful.
