Thread: I think the new hate system is broken...

i've been hunting in groups all over the place lately and i found that no matter what happens the enemy goes after the carbineer <<---(me) mayb its a dev hate thing, but i tested this using many different specials. i instantly drew agro when i used a KD... i instantly drew agro with advanced critical shot... i instantly drew agro with improved leg shot/advanced rapid fire/ and even with ranged shot... i was only doing half the damage as the other group members when i was using ranged shot, yet still i was the primary target.


also 1 AOE shot and its all over for you, was using FAA tonight and it agro'd everything in a 360 degree circle around me (only did damage to the ones within about 90 degrees in front of me) no matter who you have tanking for you the enemy goes straight to the first person who uses and AOE...


i hope the devs adresses this soon, i hate drawing all the fire even when i don't want to, and as for the 360 agro tonight, it was the first time it happened to me, i was on dathomir and just about everything on my radar screen instantly started attacking me

You know Ive been thinking about this. I draw agro like crazy, I am mbh msmuggler novice carbs. I notice you too must have some bh if your using critical shot. I am thinking there is some inherent agro to bh attacks. Maybe they did this since bhs dont get taunt but are suppose to be "tanks". I could be way off but it sure seems like some inherent taunt effect.

From what I understand the Taunt skill works again. I used to have CM skills and everytime I healed I was immediately agroed. Should be ok with 2 melee in group to taunt the agro off.

ditto here. Maybe it's the BH thing like you said above. I am also MBH and use critical. I can stand there while the melee beat on the mob, but once I start firing thier attention shifts to me.

The problem is not in carbines etc its the total lack of taunts for the tanks. Aggro managment is a skill but sadly soe havent a clue that tanks usually dont do the most damage in the team but... they sure can taunt and get no 1 on the hate list.


Melee tanks need better taunts period to keep aggro on them or there is no point in having a tank unless hes a jedi. Think its power that has taunts in the line. But before soe get the idea about how a tank works i dont really like to press any specials since its auto aggro for sure.

i dont have trouble with this while grouping, the tankers gotta keep the aggro control up- its what taunt is for, usualy, Most ranged profs will get the most hate because they got a higher DPS than melee, so thats why taunt is used, to get the enemy to hate the tankers. Over all, ranged professions do way mroe damage than melee, and that generates hate towards us. if you find this happening in a group. snare em, and warn the tanker and ask for them to taunt it.

TK doesn't have a group taunt does it? That just sucks. It needs an area taunt, that extends like 6m out in either a cone, or just a 6-8m radius.


What makes a tank is not just the ability to withstand attacks for a period of time, it's the ability to maintain agro (that's my everquest experience anyway). The abilit to last long against high level MOBs doesn't serve it's purpose as a tank if you're not the one getting hit.


Now for my little story.


Went out with some friends last night. A novice marksman/entertainer/something else (CL 20), a master smuggler/mp (CL 80), a CM/pistoleer (CL 72), and a MBH/almost MCarb (CL 74) with a proton carb (/brag). We were grouped (so we were all lvl 80 per say), and took missions on enraged rancors (CL 82, very aggresive). The first time we hit them, we agro'd 2. I thought I would take the brunt of it being a MBH with 6k kinetic armor, and doing some nice damage with that cold carb. I was down in 6 hits, and insta-blowed (dead before I hit the ground). No biggie, they killed both of them and the CM rez'd me. I took my armor off (after checking the condition, it was fine), and put it back on. After that, I could take about 10-12 hits from them before going down. Something is still screwey with armor.


As for agro, we got the MSmug/MP to draw them out one or 2 at a time, and bring them over the hill. Once out of range/LOS of the rest of the group, I did a suppression fire attack. I actually got the little +snare+ symbol (couldn't believe it), but by this time, the distance was so short, I couldn't tell a difference. They instantly agro'd me (both of them), despite the fact that our smuggler was using taunt. Taunt seems to have no affect on naturally aggressive creatures (in my experience, but then again, I don't personnaly have taunt). If I used a KD, tangle shot, or even torso shot, I became target numero uno. That's the way it happened for the length of the hunt. The only advantage I found to this was the ability to lead rancors away from a DB'd groupmate, so the doc could rez them.

Taunts were fixed in patch mid-week I belive?


I think the "system" for hate is logical given the objective of the CU...to rebalance profs. Given the amount of damage a Master Carb with 0400 BH and an E11 Mk2 can do. Rifleman more so. It insures we (ranged profs) are vulnerable to the possibility of attack even with tanks actively engaging a target. Otherwise, we'd not even need to bother with armor. That would defeat the objective of the CU and make us more powerful overall than melee profs.

yesterday in team with 5 jedis on dantooine..... Logic with Soe's aggro system is there is no logic. I let them start bashing bols with basic attacks, wait a while to let hate set in on them and open up with basic attacks - aggro in second.


A mob that has been beaten systematically by a person should have that one as hate victim no 1 but somehow this system only see to what damage you do each turn. So if there damage was sub 400 and i did 600 with my proton carbine aggro was on me everytime. Aggro in this game is busted or non existent. Give tanks what they need, taunts or just dump this upgrade of the game since i dont see the point in the tank running after the mob that sets off on me that is standing 40+ meters from the fight shooting basic attacks on it.


No body shot, leg shot no nothing just basic attacks and it happens to many times for it to make sense.

Ok, so I've gone into the Geo Caves to get that DNA for my Bolotaur mount... well first time my buddy and I got destroyed. So next time we brought a tank (Master Tk/Pikeman/4000 Doc). Got past the crazed geonosians well enough... I seemed to be the only one holding aggro *was master Carb/SL/0003 BH at the time*... well there happened to be 6 enhanced Kwi at the corner by the first door. Hope it's a bug, but anyway, they aggroed someone from another group and round the corner to get to him... only they attack and incap me in a matter of like 3 seconds. And the guy wasn't even in our group, I was /maskscent and so were my buds. *shrug* lol it was kind of pathetic to see someone with like 270 melee defense get eaten like that. I was in the clone trooper armor too *sliced to the low-mid 6k protection range*. Ah well. Let them hate me. I hate back pretty hard.

well im MBH/MC/0-0-0-4 pistols, and i notice i can grab aggro like nobody's business, but i like it like that... when i watch my combat log i seem to be outdamaging even the riflemen (which is what i attribute the aggro to) but it isnt really a bad thing because i can tank almost as well as the melee classes, overall... yes something is obviously off... especially if i am outdamaging rifleman, but shhhh dont tell nobody or else they gonna swing the nerf bat on us and THEN you will have something to complain about.....

I am a master commando/ 4 4 4 4 rifleman and a carbineer and they agro me before anyone else it sucks lol
