To whom it may concern,
Let me start out by stating to the SONY and SWG people what a bang up job your doing. The consistant approach to nerf rather then add is a stroke of genius. The amount of money you guys must be saving on development must be enormous. Congrats!!! For the general public, I have a Master Carbineer with all of the BH Carb skills. 165 Acc and 105 Speed... (BTW changed professions after the nerf of the underhand shot, thought it was a good idea) Suppression Shot 2, the best kept secret, was the best shot we had working, now introduce the latest patch... I miss 7 times in the row, could it be the character, no... I have probably the QUICKEST and MOST Accurate stats on the server, I fail to hit with Charge shot 1 often and Suppression 2, which is supposed to be more effective, now lacks consistancy. Tell ya what, let me break this down to you the best way I can...
Why don't any of our special shots work properly a bug? No, it is a common tactic of a software company to SLOW down a character progression to obtain more financial revenue, but lets get into the actual shots.
A. Chargeshot 2, what is it? What should it do? Legend has it it knocks down groups of people, I can't even get it to knock down the single target. BTW, I have underhand shot still, does more HAM damage but actually works doing more damage.
B. Suppression 2, what the hell was done to this shot? No Bounty Hunter, no pistoleer, not even a commando could take me in a PvP this once beautiful shot. The little known shot would make that character change positition and stop the character from doing any KD shot. Now, that shot is all but disappeared. Not to mention the HAM costs. Almost forgot, who could ever forget the nice stand still a AT-ST came to... Well if you didn't see it, forget it now.
C. Crippleshot, One of the most devastating shots, with the recent patch seems to do less HAM damage so it works nice again, but OOOPS, does less damage, poor trade off.
D. Burstshot 2, Does nice damage to health bar, actually works, but now does MORE damage to HAM due to the recent patch.
E. Scattershot 2, Nice damage sometimes, but same as its sister shot, Burstshot2, more HAM damage since the patch.
F. Action 2, ok if the actual enemy doesn't incap you first, this is a nice icon that looks like blood on there bar. Nice idea, lacks effectiveness.
G. Leg shot 3, Was this a mistake? I mean I don't see alot of other 3 levels out there. Is this just some shot that was abanded? I don't get why I need this, my regular shots do the same.
Onto the HAM gripes....
A. Why so much? I mean, does pulling a trigger actually deplete my whole mind? Ok, so you want balance, but how bout some higher damage to the thing your shooting? I'd rather get run over by a Rancor then do 3 Cripple shots. I burn through ham like a Homeless Christmas Dinner. I do more damage to myself then anyother creature under level 40, but I do it all in a proficiant amount of time! Top notch guys...
B. I can't use ARMOR! Everyone is rejoicing due to the 20% reductions in encumberance!!!! GREAT, SUPER, but, So Friggin what? I can barely get these shots to work, let alone them take MORE HAM away from my character. Again, all things to slow us down from progression, but guess what, my character is already completed, I was hoping to enjoy the game.
C. Anyone else begging for a heal? Who is fighting out there without pleading for someone to heal them, I wish I had master Doctor too, at least I could buff my character where I could live without INCAP'n myself!.
Finally weapons....
A. Laser weapons seem to be the best, and do alot of damage about a max 350, seems to be my best choice but, OOOOOPS, what is this, LLC for BH doing 1000 a pop? Commandos weapons all being unnerfed and doing what kind of damage!?!??!
B. Lack of variety kinda sucks, I mean there are 3 piss poor carb's and 1 good one? Boy, so glad I went master CARB.
I was going to conclude with a rather heated statement, but, I really just want these issues resolved. If we could just get together, game developer and game player, we could really get this game to be a long lasting enjoyable game. It's rather frustrating, and it has great potential, but really, I don't know if I would keep it after the month of September. I am completely leveled and still having no fun. PLEASE HELP THE CARBINEER'S!!!!!

i agree 100%. the problem is the dev's dont actually play the game. when you say your specials are "broken" thats like telling a chimpanzee to go make you some dinner. on the other hand if you say "Bobo go get a banana" then youre talking their language.
you have to give more detail when you bitch on this board so SoJ can put something better that 'my specials are fcked up' when he submits reports. how much HAM did cripple shot cost? what gun were you using? what was the HAM, dam and spd of the gun? tell them how many times you missed with x special and how many times you fired it, were you running, still, prone or what? what was the AR of the mob?
i know the deal, you know the deal and everyone who has the carbineer tag over their head knows the deal. the devs DONT know the deal so when you have a gripe put in detail and assume these guys wouldnt know a carbine from their dicks, because quite frankly, they dont.
theres one master carbineer on my server that i know of, im shooting to be the second one but we need people who are master (which arent many) now and have tested all of the specials to submit detailed info.
You don't need to be a Master to see that what H1red is talking about is true. Carbine Specials Broken? They were never Fully implimented in the first place, and, after playing BH / Carb for a long while, I feel this was Intentional, not accidental, not in any way.
Had our Specials actually worked, and, had our HAM costs been reasonable, or at least on a Par with what Pistoleeros now get... we would have simply been devastating.
As to the Specials Mentioned by H1red;
- Charge Shot 2 is a level 3 skill in the Special Tactics Branch (the Combat XP branch)
- Suppresion 2 is a level 4 skill in the Defensive Branch
- Cripple Shot is a level 3 skill in the Accuracy Branch
- Burst Shot 2 is a level 3 skill in the Defensive Branch -- Right Below Suppresion 2
- Scattershot 2 is a level 3 skill in the Speed Branch
- Action Shot 2 -- Now there was our Bread And Butter, it's a Novice Skill, Entry Level
- Legshot 3 is a level ONE skill in the Accuracy line
These skills can all be tested and have been discussed at length on these forums. You don't Need to be a Master Carbineer to see that what H1red is talking about is absolutely true. These are, and have been broken since inception, the only tweaking which has been done has been to Nerf them even more.
I believe this points to a Major Flaw in the Developers Vision for how things "Should" be. It seems very obvious that Devs do not want us handling Multiples. Period. If you look at ANY Class which has Cone Effects, you will see that their cone effects act almost exactly the way ours do. As a matter of fact I recently answered a post written by a BH who was asking why their LLC Cone 1 was not working, Why it was Saying it hit so and so for such and such, and they could even see the Damage numbers over the targets head, but no damage was being applied, Does that sound familiar to anyone here?
Heck, that sort of BS has been a staple for Carbineers from the start.
This latest nerf just drives home the point SOE and Lucas Arts was trying to make since the very beginning. Increasing our HAM costs didn't stop us, lesening the damage from actionshot 2 and all the others didn't stop us, telling us something was Fixed, and then NOT having it actually be fixed, that didn't stop us either. The Junk they told us about how they were making it so HAM costs on weapons could be experimented away to 0, and Not having that work either, that still didn't stop us,
How bout Now?
Why are they so fit to stop us? and by Us I mean Every single Combat Class. Heck, Commandos just have a taste, it's going to hurt them all the more when they take it away
I truely hope they enjoy their nice new weapons while they can, they sure have gone through some tough times for this "Game".
I don't and I do, agree with H1red on the reasons behind the nerf, I can't help but believe, though, that there is a "Vision" of how and what we are supposed to be able to hunt, and it's not been in keeping with reality. I truely feel that these nerfs are ALL simply an attempt to force us into a playstyle in keeping with the original intention of the Game. Yes, this should look and sound obvious, because that has been what the impact has been. But what this means ot me is that this game neither responds to, nor grows with it's player base.
So players are taking higher level animals that the Devs could have Ever thought possible, even in their wildest dreams. Is this a flaw? No, it's ingenuity, creativity, call it what you will. The players were given tools, Broken tools and that, and released into the Wild Outbacks. Yes, it cons Red, but what does That mean?
Not a **edit** thing.
Con is not an effective way of catagorizing your prey, we all know that. We all know that certain Beasities are easier to hunt, certain ones are to be avoided. I'm not speaking of the exploit ones here, I'm speaking of abilities, resistances and social attitudes (BAF). That's common sense, another word for it is Strategy. We developed various strategies based on what skills we were given, how the terrain Actually worked and the strenghts and weaknesses of our foes.
Yes, some poeple, maybe a lot, I really don't know, utilized extreme unbalances present in some animals, like the Jax for example or that whole thing about Baz Nitches, I didn't, but, what does it matter? Those were situations capable of being addressed, and were! As to the rest of us, well... The Devs should have, could have gone another Route. Rather than reduce us all, or affect the relative values of those creatures we are fighting why not create another tier?
What sense does it make for a Master Carbineer, such as H1red to be unable to continue what they were doing? They don't need any more XP. Was progression to fast? I'd say not, and I'm still progressing, I've been at 0 skill points many times. But it's not progression here that was addressed. It was effectiveness and flexibility.
There is not a whole lot of difference between myself and a youngling coming to Master Marksman.;
- They can't travel Endor safely, neither can I
- They can't take on more than one or two Dark Blues, Whites, Neither can I
- Multiple Storm Troopers mean Death for them, Me too! (heck, one would kill them, ok
)
The point is that the entire game has changed for those of us who once went anywhere did anything. That's all over. My Maskscent doesn't keep me hidden around Theed, let alone anywhere really dangerous, anywhere where it's needed. I don't feel there was the need to reduce the Master Scout's abilities in order to give something new to Rangers.
And that's more of my point.
This change to KD and Posture was only A Part of the overall picture. Maskscent was another and it speaks to many of my points above. Not only can't you now control your pursuers, but, you can't hide from them either. And with the warping you also can't run away from them...
They could have done better for us,
they Could have given us deeper Jungles, Far off Plains or Higher Mountain Ranges on the existing Planet, new places to explore, Places, People, Creatures which would have taxed our abilities even further and tested our tactics
They could have given Scout something New in the way of camoflage, rather than nerf MaskScent. That would have gone hand in hand with opening up new ranges -- Not merely another Endor though, with piles upon piles of critters one atop the other, but something interesting and worth exploring (Dangerous! Dark and Deep
)
They could have watched us and learned from us, not on how to best Nerf us, but saying instead "Wow! I never thought they would be able to do that, that is so very, very good."
They could have allowed this game to grow in response to their player base, as a story grows from an author's hand, with twists and turns which surprise the writer as much as they surprise the Reader.
Instead we have a System which is as every bit oppresive and artificial as "The New Order".
