I know carb/bh is better for pve/pvp, but if i do ranger/carbineer, i won't have the money to buy the speed tapes. which should i do?

Those two templates have completely different purposes.....so it all boils down to what you think is fun.

Sorry can't really compare the two but Carbineer is a nice match with Ranger as I have known a number of people that greatly enjoyed that.....but a Carbineer without SEA's or BH is not very strong really.

I started off as a carbineer/ranger ... i had a blast, Ranger was definitely one of my favourite proffessions thus far, the only downside was the huge skill point investment, even today i miss /areatrack and high tech field bases.

But TA has a point completely different skill sets, completely different purposes, completely different choices.

You could always try a hybrid of the 2 as well. Go 0400 BH / 0404 Carbs / 0440 Ranger ... with 8 points left over for FS Skills. It gives you the viability of the BH Carbineer with access to some really cool AoE Specials, Tracking and High Level Camps. The only problem is you would be lacking in the area of defence, but you should have enough offence to get you by in most mid to high PvE environments.

Either way you look at it you wont have even a smidgen of defenses! I was a ranger for a very short while and I can say the class is in desperate need of some attention. Until it gets revamped its not really good for anything other than the harvesting bonuses and area track when you cant find someone that shows up in the search window.

Yea, definately put in perspective what you enjoy more. Carb/Ranger would give you some money if you took out harvesting contracts. Plus you can still pvp with that as somewhat of a support character.

I've played both extensively. In fact, when there's some uber harvests that come out, I dump some of my other PVP type skills and since I harvest most of the time anyway - have an arse of scout XP on the ready along with scout skills I never drop and hit that novice Ranger and start in harvest money making venture. But when that either gets boring or the uber meat/hide/bone dries up - I spend a day grinding again to get back the PVP stuff I like to use and I'm back on that track. I guess I've gotten pretty used to going back and forth with those templates needs. Only takes me about a day or so to switch. I have fun doing it. It's super easy to do. And I get to partake in whatever recent high quality harvests are out there and usually make a decent mil or so selling them.

Thats a great way to play. People are always asking for template advice but the truth is that the skills in this game can be added and dropped quickly so why not try both out (well maybe with the exception being investigation).
