Morning,
I'm getting ready to restructure my template after a bit of a hiatus as part Doc... I'm planning on going back to Commando but due to some of the problems with that prof that still haven't been fixed- skill prerequisites that don't benefit Commando at all, uselessness of some of our weapons, etc - I'm considering going carbineer instead. I'm looking for info on the profession, and thought I'd get it straight from the experts. ^_^
Any impressions on the Carbineer prof would be helpful, both pros and cons. "It's good at X by not so good at Y" is great, and information on the strengths and weaknesses of the 4 individual trees would be awesome too, since that would help me consider "mix and match"ing with other professions. The only thing I don't need is "OMG CARBS ARE UB3R!" and "M.CARBIN33R 4 TEH WIN!"... and yes, I realize that by saying that I'm probably gonna get exactly that, hehe. ^_^
Anyway, thanks for any helpful info I get in advance. See you all around the Galaxy!

The professions in SWG are really defined by their strengths and weaknesses. For Carbineer, they are:
Strengths:
- Excellent variety of Specials with equally great utility.
- All of the Carbineer Specials but maybe one or two have a useful purpose.
- Numerous State attacks which are very important, both in PvE and PvP.
- Wide selection ofCone Effect/Multi-Target attacks.
- Access to one of the best all-around weapons in the game: Laser Carbine.
- Very strong in low- to mid-level PvE content.
- Awesome titles. Perhaps some of the best in the game.
Weaknesses:
- Very highHAM costs.
- Slowest of the 3 Ranged classes.
- Damage types available (energy, acid and heat) are common and highly resisted. Many high-end targets are immune to these damage types.
- State effects are not applied to high-end mobs removing any distinction or contribution to high-end content.
- Very weak in high-end content.
- Low defenses. Among the worst of the elite combat classes.
- Main defensive skill, Counterattack, is broken. It does not "trigger" often and does not "counter" the attack.
- Very poor PvP performance because of low damage, slow speed, high HAM, and easily resisted damage types.
