let me start by saying THANK YOU to SamousNemo for telling me how to do this quest.

here we go:

Proton Carbine Quest
Cert for the carbine is Master Bounty Hunter.

Hate to state the obviouse, but you need the RotW expansion.
Go to the Rryatt Trail on Kashyyyk (It's a POI in the upper most portion of the Map) and talk to the NPC named Carl

(you can find him with /tar carl as soon as you enter the trail).

Take his quest to go after a Minstyngar. He wants you to find a Pristine Horn on one of the beasts.

I found the Minstyngars on the third level down* (the one that is comprized of huge rings on your map - ctrl+m).

You'll have to look around for the Minstyngar and kill them (they look A LOT like green Gurk from LoK). Not all of

the critters carry the horn though you can loot them and skin them all for Scouting XP (translates to Heightened

Senses XP). i killed 8 or 10 before I found the Pristine Horn on a Minstyngar Breeder - CL 61 i believe. When you

have killed a beast with the horn you'll get the system message "Pristine horn found."

Shortly after you find the horn a CL 61 BlackRazor NPC will spawn and attack you. Kill him and return to Carl for

your carbine.

The quest was fun, especially if you have not traveled the path very much yet. the only problem i had with it was

the fact that as a level 80 character, i did not earn any XP. every MOB or NPC i dealt with was between levels 50

and 61...so only a single point of XP per kill. that having been said, the Proton Carbine is the second coolest

looking carbine in the game imho, so it was WELL worth running a round a bit and squishing some low level enemies.

*You can be transported through the different levels if you speak to the Master Trail Guide at the beginning of the Rrayyt Trail.

He will give you a quest to find all the other Trail Masters. Once you have found them you can warp from the Master Trail Guide

to any of the levels...saving you a LOT of time. the other Trail Guides will also allow you to transport all the way back to the trail
starting gate no matter what
level you are on.

Thanks for the info. I did not know this, and doing some of the other quests was a pain, as I had to go to lvl 2, finish go back, go to lvl 3, finish go back, go to lvl 4 et. etc.

LOVING the carbine...HATING the low, low condition it comes with =(
this should NOT be your every day carbine, but saved for tight spots where the power and speed are really needed

Would this weapon be worth ADK'ing in your opinion?

If you got and ADK over so use it, the proton carbine really decays fast unfortunally.

i havea couple ADKs at the moment. i am thinking about mounting my Proton on the wall until slicing is fixed, getting the thing sliced and then using one my my ADKs on it.

the other thing i am keeping in mind is when i unlock my second character slot, that character is going to be the same template plus a bit more (no points in FS) so the proton will be about the perfect weapon for him. HOWEVER, he can run the quest to get the proton as well, and if THAT one gets a better slice...

don't know just yet what to do about the low condition on the Carb. it is a WONDERFUL piece of equipment.

I heard that quest weapons return to full condition when repaired. I may have heard wrong.

Please note, the Level of the Trandoshan Blackscale that spawns appears to vary. My one was level 80, I've seen them at level 68 as well. It may well depend on your combat level or the quest may be slightly bugged.

They say that Jedi represent the best the Galaxy has to offer, they are smart, noble, wise, honourable and selfless, an example to us all. Jedi, they say, are like Eagles.
They also say that Bounty Hunters are dishonourable, cowardly killers with no respect for life or honour, who strike from ambush and exist only to kill. We are, they say, like Weasels.
Bounty Hunters are Weasels, Jedi are Eagles ? I can live with that, Eagles may soar but Weasels don't get sucked into Skyhopper jet intakes.

Blackscale, the trando slaver clan on Kashyyyk

Also, I would be VERY interested to see the results of some testing on quest weapons with repair kits, especially if we dont have to deal with the chance of it falling apart...

i will buy some tonight or tomorrow and let you know if it repairs full

also, i guess the level DOES vary because as i stated i ran the quest at level 80 and the blackscale was no more than level 61-62
