Thread: Elemental Damage Test (Proton and Nyms Sluggy)

Hey All.

Got a little bored and decided, knowing Chimmy was going down, to quickly hop to TC, see if I can't get some numbers on whether Elemental Damage is truly working or not, so I got kitted up, and tested some of the common shots out on the Level 1 critters outside Mos Eisley, And here are the results....

Weapons Used -
Proton Carbine (Looted, Not Froggy)
Base Speed - 2.25

Damage 428 - 855
Elemental Type - Cold
Elemental Damage - 90
Acc. Bonus - 0

Nyms Slugthrower Carbine (Again, Looted/Reward, not froggy)

So.. Elemental is working, exactly the same as normal damage - A flat rate of damage, no variation, except for Scatter Shot, which I predict is a bug.

Key Things -
Advanced Rapid Fire - I still think this is meant to be our primary Damage dealing Special, being Advanced and all, but again shows that it is only on par with Improved Full Auto Area.
Improved Scatter Shot - I picked this shot as its the 3xxx Ability, and it still less powerful, more action consuming than the Novice Marksman special, with no noticeable distinction. Also, I repeated to lay 170 Acid Damage from the Nyms, the only special to do this.

I'm still on TC now, Going through a few more specials, hope to add a bit more to this from differing weapons with elemental soon.

I am sorry to disappoint you, but the way you describe your setup, i can for sure say that your testing is flawed.


All reports we have on elemental damage up to now say:



  • elemental damage isSHOWN as ifworking in the combat log

  • elemental damage is NOT actually applied to the target

All you did was looking at the combat window if it SAYS that there is elemental damage. Unfortunately, you kill lv. 1 critters already with one shot, so you have no chance to crosscheck on their health bar.


To test correctly you have to:



  1. have weapons with very similar or even equal damage ratings but significally different elemental damage ratings.

  2. go to high level critters. (Take a mission, so all have the same level. Go for non-social ones, so you have some time and don't need to worry to be attacked by all at once.)

  3. disable auto-fire, so you can exactly control how much you fire at the target

  4. write down the max health of the target

  5. fire ONE shot at the target (best with a keyboard command, so the mouse pointer already can be over the health bar of the target)

  6. note the health of the target after you shot at it.

  7. repeat steps 4 to 7 with different weapon, so you have numbers for both kathegories

Only then you can see how much damage you actually did on the creature and if elemental damage works.

Sylow is correct, the Combat Log is working but the real damage is not.....


This is an old issue and well documented to the Devs.

As far as I knew, this had been stealth-fixed in Pub18.. Obiviously not. Even so, This does manage to point out the bug with Scatter Shot there, not that i'm trying to resurrect anything from the topic or something...

They tried to fix it but it wasn't done for Publish 18.
