Heya TA and others.
I'm a long time Carbineer, but switched after the CU and am considering the idea of coming back. I'm struggling to understand the role of the Carbineer in the CU.
What do Carbineer's do? Are they really good at crowd control? Can they root. If I remember correctly, there's a special that slows movement.
I've been running with a pistol in my hand and am really feeling a lack of role when I'm in a group. I understand Rifles are the damage dealers. Can we dish out serious damage as well? When you're in a group, can you really keep an opponent (pve or pvp) where you want them?
I searched the beloved FAQs but couldn't get the answer. I'm currently a Squad Leader, Pistoleer, and CM 4-0-0-0. Pistols isn't giving me what I want, so I'm pondering the idea of replacing my Pistol skills with either Carbs or Rifles.
Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pistoleer is the new crowd control profession. They have the states (stun, intimidate, warning shot), an AOE damage attack (fanshot), an attack which prevents your opponent from firing (disarming), and a root. So if you want crowd control, you're in the right place. If you want the highest damage possible, you should probably go with rifles, as riflemen are the designated nukers.
Carbineers occupy a special place somewhere in the middle. Our damage is certainly greater than pistoleers. We do have the ability to crowd control single targets well, with a single target KD (chargeshot) and a single target snare (crippling shot, this is the special you remembered slowing a target's movement). We also can do area damage with full auto area, and suppression fire is a unique area snare. Our single target damage shot is Leg shot, and we can do serious damage with it.
That's a really quick overview, but that's my snap take of the differences between the 3 main ranged profs. Decide for yourself where your loyalties should lie!
