Thread: Back from a 6-month break, need template advice

Hello fellow Carbineers,


I've been on hiatus since before the CU, and I'm not sure what to do with my two main characters now. Ricky is a 4332 Carbineer and a Master Musician;I used to be the Musician Correspondent. By contrast, Ronny is a 3040 Commando, Master Marksman, 4410 Medic, and Master Politician. Because Master Pol now costs no skill points, Ronny finds himself with 80-odd skill points free, and in some ways it'd make more sense for him to go MC than for Ricky. Ronny is also FS. Ricky may become a full-time entertainer.


Do you all have any general advice on what to do? Given that I can respec, now might be an ideal time to shift MC over to Ronny; but does it go well with Commando? If not, what does it go well with? Does MC compare favorably with Rifleman and Pistoleer now?

I find that with Master carbs/MBH/master marksman/pistoleer 0003 I have 220 melee defense and like 250 ranged defense with my carbine equiped and i have 120 speed with a carbine and like 260 accuracy, master marksman adds +25 to general ranged accuracy and +15 to general ranged speed, idk why someone would not want master marksman. this has been my template for some time and there's nothing i like better.

If you don't want to go the BH route...


I like Master Carbines/ Master Pistols/ Master Marksman/ 4-0-0-0 Rifleman/ 3-0-0-0 Scout/ 0-3-0-0 Enhanced Reflexes.


You get a killer 315 accuracy with a carbine. You only have 105 speed, but really anything over that is kind of useless because of cool-down timers. You end up with 190 melee/ranged defense. You also get all the cool pistoleer specials like disarm shot (delaysenemies attacks for 5 or so seconds), intimidate shot (lowers damage of enemy), fan shot (AOE damage attack to alternate with full auto area in carbineer), stopping shot (root attack which stops movement of enemy), warning shot (lowers enemy's defenses), and burst shot (AOE stun attack). The sniper tree of rifles gives you extra accuracy and sniper shot, a useful opening shot which can only be fired from prone but does a lot of damage. I have a lot of fun with this template.

Im actually heading for a Commando-based carb template at the moment myself. I spent about an hour in Kodan's CU skill calc checking out various builds, and I found the following to be the best from my PoV:

Master Commando
Master Carbineer
Squad Leader xxx4

Now, you could probably get more specials and some additional accuracy/speed with a BH template, but this gives 200 general ranged accuracy(very important), 55 general ranged speed(less so, but still useful), 155 melee defense and 130 ranged defense. That gives me 265 accuracy and 105 speed with a carbine equipped(ie, Im at the new soft cap on accuracy and have plenty speed), and 255 accuracy, 100 speed with heavy weapons. Plus I get to have fun yelling at people with system messages in groups

Because some of us have FS skills, such as ranged speed, acc, defense, and melee defense

i enjoy being a Master BH, Master Carb, pistol 0003 for root, and rest in combat prowess and enhanced reflexes.
