So I'm an Expert Weaponsmith, soon to be master, and after I finish that grind hell, I was going to dive head fist into becoming a carbineer(and then Bartender). Now based on the bit of these boards I've read, Im sure there will be plenty of "Don't do it! You've got a promising career, be a pistoleer instead!" Well tough I've made up my mind.

Question as a Weaponsmith:As a carbineer, would you prefer Carbines experimented to have lower HAM costs as a primary concern over damage and durabilty? What carbines should I focus on stocking? General tips on what merchandise you'd like to see would be appreciated.

As a novice Carbineer: What is the best way to Grind XP, and what trees should I go up first?

Thanks a bunch.

Well, Let me be the first to recommend you find another proffession before you get to deep into our carbineer hell.

That being said, Welcome to the the club.

As to the weapons, Well, Laser, laser, laser. The only carbine worth using.

Here's my opinion-

Don't worry too much about Carbine HAM costs, DEV's have recognized they are too high and will be fixing them soon. I'd just try to keep them at an average level for now then see what happens after the patch.

Durability isn't a concern for me. I can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't worry about experiementing it out too much.

As for stock...most vendors I see usually only have Laser Carbines and MAYBE Elites in stock. I rarely if ever see a DXR, DH17 or EE3 anywhere. If I was a weaponsmith I'd try to keep a variety on hand. In fact, I'm in the market for several new carbines right now if I could just find a weaponsmith that will make what I want.

For me, there was no better way of getting Carbine & Combat XP than getting in a nice-sized group and hunting on Dathomir. On that planet, I get about 5-6k Carbine XP and respectable combat xp for every mob since most are 10k HAM or over. It's still a grind though.

He'll probably flame me to death, but don't listen to Llargy. He obviously doesn't know the joys of a good Elite or DH17 carbine for damage consistency and low HAM costs, respectively.

And what about mobs that are 100% resistant to Energy? You going to keep blasting away at them with a Laser Carbine? No, its time to pull out your EE3 or DXR6 carbine for that.

Individual carbines are tools, just like all weapons. You select the best tool for the job...pretty hard to turn a screw with a hammer.

If you are going to be a serious weaponsmith, then I think you need to stock a variety of carbines. Even for each type of carbine, you are going to want to stock varieties on what attributes you spend the experiment points on. There are alot of players out there who will be buying your guns and with how the point system works, you will see variations in how people use their weapons. I am sure there will be combinations that will be more prominent than others (e.g. bounty hunter/carbineer, etc.) but I think you will still get a variety. You may want to stock more lasers than the other types of carbines since they seem more popular, but i would keep those others in stock as well.

I personally buy carbines in approximately the following rations:4-5 lasers per EE3, 8-10 lasers per Elite/DXR6

I look at HAMS, attack speed, and damage when looking at a gun as a whole, but I definitely put more weight on HAMS and speed than damage.

Speed isn't really an issue for me as long as it isn't above 4.5 seconds....with the 2.0 Speed Cap coming for carbines & my speed mods, I'll be hitting that cap anyway....so I'll probably have to custom-order my carbines to be experimented down to 4.5 speed only and have the rest of the points spent on damage.

Here comes the flame (no I'm not a commando).

All true...but you forget the AR2 of the laser compared to the AR1 of the elite and the AR0 of the DH17.

No carbine compares to the laser.

I suppose you might want a DXR6, but the one i bought is sitting in my house. I'll buy and Elite when they become "Elite".

Okay this is all pretty useful info to know. The more info you can let weaponsmiths know, the better they can make it for you guys. Because Weaponsmiths by defualt will max out damage first and foremost when making weapons, but that may not always be the right course of action. I figure if the Devs won't show us love, fellow players should. And since I the weaponsmith willbe making weapons for myself the carbineer, I guess I'll be loving myself.

I feel dirty now.

I carry a Laser, an EE3, and a DXR6 with me just in case, but 95% of the time the laser carbine puts out the most damage/time. The higher max damage of the lasers combined with AR2 just makes the other guns look ineffectual in nearly every situation. If I were a weaponsmith I would stock 75% lasers and then an equal assortment of the rest. I would experiment primarily for damage, secondarily for speed, and then drop any extra points into HAM cost.HAM may be great for people without medic skills, but how many serious carbineers out there haven't figured out that medic skills are mandatory for carbine use? Not helluv many I'd guess. Speed is always a plus as it means you have a little better chance of getting a warning shot off in time to save your hide, but I would rather have high damage. Using more specials in less time for equal damage means using more HAM as well...damage is better.

There is no one answer to this question...

The most popular carbines are laser, ee3, dxr6 and dh17 snubnose. I carry all 4. I use the DH17 whenever I can because of low HAM costs.

Low-speed carbineers need fast carbines with good damage.

High-speed carbineers need max damage and low HAM...speed of the carbine is irrelevant (I fire my slowest 3.7 reload carbine using crippleshot, the slowest skill, at 1 sec).
