I'm just wondering what you guys would choose. Speed or Damage?

The reason why I'm asking is because someone on Starsider is selling sliced Laser Carbs. They range from 3.8: 39-302 to 26: 31-240.

Which would you choose? If they're are other SS Carbineers reading this do you know of any better Laser Carbs on the server?

Well it sorta depends on your situation and preference. In the case of those 2 carbines, the speed sliced one has more dps if you do a direct comparison of min+max / speed, but it also means it'll burn more ham for specials in relation to how much damage you do.

The other thing to consider is the speed caps, which you wont be reaching with a 2.6 carbine with just master carbineer (2.6 * 0.4 = 1.04, 1.0 would be the cap), but that may change when/if they add separate speed caps for different professions. If you have any BHcarbine skills though, always go with damage.

there are some that's already 3.5 speed... for laser carb, I would go dmg with that anyways.... ranging from 35-40 to 220-240 depending on the maker.

I go with dmg slices. The reason for that is I can always get a speed powerup if the situation calls for it, but honestly..how many times have you found yourself saying, "Man, I wish I wasn't doing quite so much damage"? Also, instead of going for crippling shot right out of the gate I chose to work on the speed branch. Once you get up there aways you hardly even notice the speed slice effects. Or maybe that's just me.

depending on the speed, my dh17 is awesome 1.6 speed, i can do 500+ damagae every 1 or 2 seconds.

I have yet to get a good laser carbine just dont have the money right now.

I really only care about damage. My current one is 55-501(sliced&always powerupped[got a dozen crates ]) @ 3,4 speed. its made with krayt tissues though.. but from those weapons there, i'd take damage.. I like damage..

Always, always damage. Carbines are fast enough that speed isn't as big of a deal as damage. Our HAM costs are so high you want to be making the most out of each special, meaning more damage. And with master carbineer and/or a few boxes in BH carbine, you're hitting the speed cap (especially the new speed cap coming up) anyway.

I perfer speed, my laser carbine powered-up is 40-257 at 1.9 speed, the medium piercing added with speed is great.

yea, i prefer damage. as long as the speed is under 4 then thats fine with me.

If you have alot of speed mods, damage is better. If you dont, speed is better.

So speed is better for "low-level" users and damage is better for "high-level" users.

thats the best way to describe it. Once you improved your carbine speed you should go for damage.

I bought some laser carbines yesterday andgot them all sliced. Now i have 2 sliced for dmg and one sliced speed. with dmg power up i have 2.4 speed and 50-368 dmg on the speed sliced and3.6 speed and 60-450 dmg on the dmg sliced. I cant say what i prefer, still testing, but i like the speed a bit more.

That sounds like PVE damage. With a speed sliced laser you do much more than 500 every 1 or 2 seconds. And if you are up the elite tree you will hit the speed cap with a 1.6 weapon.
