Thread: How about a kinetic carbine?

It may be the future, but having a 'real' carbine would be pretty sweet

It would be nice if the Nym carbine wasnt quest-specific, and could be crafted, but had kinetic damage. I mean, the thing is called a "slug thrower" carbine, which indicates to me that it shoots chunks of metal

The damage and such on the nym carbine isnt bad, for being the final reward from a theme park you'd think they would make it better, but it really should have a craftable counterpart that has reasonable AP and damage to be used by carbineers. I know, lots of stuff resists kinetic damage, but it would still make sense

Would really help on various npc's as well, most Nightsisters have low resistance to kinetic damage (aside from elders and the other 'more powerful' nightsister npc's).

Whats everyone think?

You can always dream heh. But it's not going to happen, because one profession can't have all damage types. They even took away riflemans kinetic damage weapon (the tusken rifle) and changed it to energy.

would be better with a new design instead of the slug thrower anyway imo

I think his point is its incongrous (sp?) its a 'slug thrower'. Unless it launches actual slugs that are all alien & stuff & secrete acid (if so I want a dot effect) it really should be a projectile ie kinetic weapon.

Explanation for only Jedi PCs using them is .....?

What do you call "all"?

There are 9 damage types in SWG, the two other ranged elite professions (rifleman and pistoleer) have 5 damage types each... carbineer has only 3. Some new damage types for carbineer would just be fair in my opinion...

well, my point is just that we have 'machine gun' type weapons, and why does a 'slug' thrower do acid damage at all? we already have the dxr6 carbine for that. Its bad enough that we do horrible damage without uber weapons anyways, sticking states is good and all but thats all we can do. oh well, maybe in the revamp things will get better.

You wanna talk about why the slugthrower isn't kinetic, so here we go:

EVERY RANGED WEAPON shoots their bullet / laser with KINETIC force, so you could say that the T-21 should be a kinetic weapon. It's the devs choice to make the damage do what types they want, not ours.

um... ok?

by kinetic damage, I'm referring to an an actual object impacting the enemy. And no, any 'laser' or 'blaster' weapon doesnt use kinetic force to propel the shot, its just focusing the energy through a lens, if you want to get technical. Any weapon that uses a solid projectile, such as a bullet, would be referred to as kinetic. Thats why almost all melee professions do kinetic damage as their main type, because they are impacting the enemy with a solid object.

Stun Batons, Power Hammers, VL's, NSEL's, all of these are swung with kinetic force, but they're different damage types. If every weapon had this rule applied to it, there wouldn't be any variation in damage type or need for other types of armor, which would make PvP extremely boring.

This is Star Wars, and the lasers, if you haven't noticed, have an effect similar to that of a kinetic object, i.e. the person is thrown backwards when they're hit.

If you really want to know why there isn't going to be a kinetic carbine, search through all of TA's posts. You should fine many of his explanations as why not.

Slug definition: any type of projectile launched from a weapon.

Would a hard gelatin capsule filled with a binary acid mix be considered a "slug" even though its not very solid? = YES

The DX series were actually disintergation weapons.

For what purpose would you want a kinetic weapon? Want to fight nightsisters? They're overrated. Go find some Singing Mountain clan on the other side of the map. Fewer and lesser resists (rarely anything 100% resisted) and the loot is the exact same. The even look sexier.

That is a lot of posts to search through

Forget all these RL analogies....SWG must be fun and have distinction for the various profs. Kinetic as a general rule is for Melee Profs only and the Devs have been VERY CLEAR that the Ranged Profs will not be getting that added to them.....in fact it has been taken away or the weapon/pistol is so horrible it doesn't matter if they take it away.

While sometimes fun rezzing a Dead Horse to beat, but as far as my communications with the Devs goes.....I must focus on asking for things I believe they might/could do, not something that has less than a 1% chance. My job is to pass along the wishes of my community to the Devs, but a Kinetic Carbine is not a logical option.

Feel free to continue the discussion, but know that SOE will not be doing a Kinetic Carbine any time soon.
