Carbine 1: 115-436 damage, 56/71/50 HAM
Carbine 2: 89-406 damage, 29/46/23 HAM
Both are sliced and have 3.8 speed. Which would you go with?

Well if buffs are the automatic cure-all to all the carbineer's problems, why is there so much talk of carbineers killing themselves more efficiently than opponents due to HAM costs? =P
BTW was that you that I ran into in Kaadara today when I decided not to kill that overt Rebel newbie? I think it was. =P

These were claims made back when buffs were not so common and people had touse Strength/Focus/Willpower foods like Rhyscate and Breath of Heaven to compensate. An unbuffed Carbineer will indeed kill himself.. I like to call it "Carbicide".
Still.. doc buffs and the regular mind foods are enough to nullify any HAM costs.. and Ahrisa can be used for certain species like Twis and Zabs who need the extra Focus.

I would go with the second in absolutely every situation. It has a higher DPS and a speed value that is capable (2.66 is the actual cut off point, but 2.7 will do just fine) at +85 carbine speed. The only possible factor i can see is minimum damage for mitigation, but look at the numbers.
Carbine 1 After mitigation 3: 108-268 (188 average)
Carbine 2 after mitigation 3: 99-281 (190 average)
Assuming of course you speed cap both weapons. And if you don't the second is faster anyways.
