Hi there, I've just gotten to Novice Carbineer and I'd like some advice on how to proceed.

About me:

I'm pretty new to the game but learning fast, I started off as a medic and I'm now almost a Master Doctor (just got all the craft grinding to do ) so I have access to 'C' buffs and great heals.

I usually like to hunt in groups, doing things like Sharnaffs and all that.. so I'd like advice on the level up carbineer the 'best' way given that I'll be grouped, and that I'll be buffed all the time. Ie which specials, skill mods etc should I get first.

Thanks in advance!

It is really up to you in what order you go. Here is what i have done. I started off with carbine speed 1 and accuracy 1 b/c they give you special shots. Then the first tree I went all the way up was the speed tree. Some will argue to go up accuracy first but this is just what I did. With speed you can get off a lot of shots very quickly but be careful b/c if will drain your action pool very fast. If you are going to be buffed you dont have to worry about that though. Then i worked my way up the accuracy tree. Now i did all of this before the damage mitigation came out so if you plan on doing a lot of pvp or npc fighting then you may want to look into at least getting mitigation 1 before you go all the way up a tree.
This is just what i did to further my carbine use, I am not saying this is THE ONLY way to do it.

To get a ton of xp I usually get into large groups and head out to the Tusken Fortress. Once you get some area attacks you can use them to shoot at every tusken in a room while others are shooting as well so that you get xp anytime one is killed. You usually get 1k-4k of xp per tusken you fired upon first or did the most damage too and about 200-800xp for the ones you happen to shoot with an area shot but didnt actually kill yourself. In about one to one half hour I had gained about 100k xp. Beware of those tuskens since they made them much more numerous and different varieties since i was last there. If you see a tusken carnage champion, beware, lol. The thing has 45k HAM. It singly almost took out my group of 6-8 plus a couple pets while we were going through and just cleaning out the other rooms. LOL. It puts up a fight LOL

So i hope this helps, Like I said this is not how you must do it but it worked for me.

Personally I got Counter-Insurgeance (sp?) I for burstshot1, which is the best special till CrippleShot, first. Then I got ScatterShot, and now I'm finding the Accuracy bonus in Marksmanship rules, plus Crippleshot is god . Speed isn't necessary if you use powerups, plus +20 isn't that much.

Personally, what i did but there are other good methods. I already had quick carbines (Krayt 1.2 and e11 1.8) so i didn't bother about speed in the beginning.

CounterInsurg 1 For Burstshot
Then4 boxes of accuracy
The speed line

If you don't have the resources to always put speed powerups on your carbine or to buy very good ones, i may suggest:

CounterInsurg 1
Speed line
Accuracy Line

The last method will provide you first with a good damage shot which is Burstshot1, (buffed, full auto 2 is also very nice and quick but high on mind cost)

Then the more you progress, you will begin to fire faster, then after you will begin to gain accuracy and miss less.

You could also do both lines at the same time.. Really depend of what you want and your own preferences when you hunt.

Everyone I talk to on bloodfin says go up and get crippling shot first as it has a nice damage modifier. So thats what I'm doing.

I climbed the assault/speed tree first then did the marksman/accuracy tree and did counterinsurgency tree last all while skilling up in the combat xp tree when i could (ugh a slow grind if you dont have leftover combat xp from a surrendered profession). thats a pretty solid way to skill up imo.

If i were to do it again however i would probably take counterinsurgency 1 for burstshot1. after that speed and accuracy mods are the most important thing. do not concern yourself with getting crippleshot asap or any other special. instead focus on upping your speed and accuracy by climbing the speed and marksman tree.rather than skilling up one up to IV and then the other IV i would recommend staggering the two lines together so that you would skill up like this:

  • counterinsurgency 1: for burstshot1 as it is an fast, reliable, low ham, high damage special. it doesnt hit as hard as crippleshot but it does come relatively close and because it is much faster than cripple it is capable of doing higher dps in longer fights. i still use burst shot1 as much if not more than cripple and thats why i say get it immediately.

  • assault 1: you get scattershot1-nothing to be thrilled about but you do get some +speed.

  • marksman 1: legshot3-useless special but you do get an accuracy mod.

  • assault2:wildshot1-useless but your get another speed mod

  • marksman2: more accuracy mods

  • assault3: scattershot2. a good special that does alot of damage and hits 2-3 ham pools randomly. more speed mods.

  • marksman3: crippleshot. very high damage, very slow. useless without alot of speed; rifleman shoot faster but it can be very devastating when used in the right circumstances with the right mods

at this point youd just finish up assault and marksman 4 and go back to counterinsurgency 2 and complete that tree, filling in the combat xp line as you are able to.
