Carbineer Archive

OK. Got extremely fed up with never making it close enough to some mobs (particularly in PVP) to use my Pike (2 2 2 2). So I've started working Carbineer. I had the marksman carbines cause that was my weapon of choice for 'pulling' mobs to my pike. Basically I am ignorant in weapons and such other than pike and have never used armor. So here are my questions.

1) Is armor used for Carbineer, if so what is best?
2) What powerups are best. I have ZERO knowledge of powerups.
3) I currently using a Laser Carbine (Krayt) and occaisionally a DXR6 Carbine for Acid. Is the Elite Carbine worth hunting down?
