I haven't been doing carbineer long, I was just wondering if anyone has done a lot of testing on this.

I am assuming that any opponents will be in composite.

If you had to choose just one carbine what would it be?

Well maybe two, one for when I am buffed and one for when I have just cloned after being killed yet again and so will be unbuffed.

The best carbine really depends upon your target. If your target is a master of an elite profession, then your target has damage mitigation skills. The higher the mitigation skills, the more useful an elite carbine becomes and the less useful a laser carbine becomes. If your target doesn't have mitigation skills, however, the laser is the better choice.

However, in my experience, most people doing PvP have mastered elite professions (or are awfully close) so most of them have damage mitigation. Therefore, in general, the elite carbine is the better choice for PvP.

What sort of stats should I be looking for on an unsliced Elite?

An average elite unsliced would be around 110-200 with 3.5 reload. Try to find one with a scope so that the ideal range modifier it +40 at 40 M.

HAM are a little insane though at 82/102/76 - the price you pay for building for accuracy over pure damage.

This is pre-slice. Ok so the speed is a little slower - but a master is going to be firing it at the cap i believe.

if its just master carbineer no way, if its a master carbineer with BH carbine skills, maybe, thats a rather slow carbine though

my personal PvP elite is like 110-200, 2.2 (hell ya!) with 22/43/20 HAM costs. great vs. masters of ranged elites, but for melee elites i use my krayt laser (no ranged mitigation).
I also have a DXR6 with basically the same stats, yet slightly lower HAMs i believe. also great for PvP
