Thread: Before you post in the In Concept thread...

If you have not noticed, there is a call for discussion on many of the combat classes in the In Concept forum.

Before you post there, please think carefully about both what you say and how you say it. You should be as concise as possible but make sure you make your point clear. If you mean X, say X. Don't say XYZ if you mean X.

Examples:

Some people are asking to the crowd control class. What does that mean?

Some are asking to be only class with AoE/cone effects. Does that mean that pistoleers, rifleman, commandos and bounty hunters should lose theirs?

Some are asking to be very good at AoE specials? Playing complete devil's advocate because I 100% honest have no more info about this than you (however, I feel the winds of change blowing...), if the Devs change combat to a system where specials cannot be spammed, will AoE specials still be useful?

Some people are saying carbines should be low accuracy. Do you really want that? You realize you are asking the Devs to nerf you. If the Devs do lower your accuracy, will you turn around and say "This is a submachine gun! I am spraying blaster fire everywhere! How could I possibly miss?"

All of us are familiar with the posture/KD timer. The Devs added it because they felt keeping targets at a distance where they could not fight back is too powerful. As correspondant, I have been trying to get them to see it is perhaps not as powerful as they believe but it is a steep steep steep uphill climb. Asking for status effects that mimic posture/KD moves (aka moves that slow or stop the target from advancing so that you could potentially kite) may fall on deaf ears with the Devs.

I also highly recommend you write your response in notepad/word and then proof it carefully. Then put it away for a day or two. Read it again and make sure it makes the points you want. Then when you are very happy, post away.

Whoops. That's what I get for not reading the carbineer forum first for a change. Oh well, I did all of the above except the let it sit around for a few days.

Well, and I suggested we keep a way to keep stuff at bay, but I also pointed out the ways it should fail and be countered.

Kaffis in no way shape or form should you feel singled out by my post nor should you feel bad for what you posted.

I was posting a general warning because the Devs are very literal and many people tend to use what I call "lose" language. I can give you an example. Last round of Top 5s, the Pistoleer list had that the +speedwas broken. What they meant was that pistols get +75, carbines get +60 and rifles get +90 and that pistols and carbines were too slow. What the Devs read was "the speed code is broken." They had CSR check the speed code, they verified it was working and their original response was that the speed code is working just fine.

My impression of what happens is Thunderheart takes a post or an issue and distills into a 1-2 line bullet point. That gets passed around and that bullet point is acted on. Thus it is vitaly important posts are clear to someone who is not familiar with the issue (TH works very hard for the player base but he will never understand all thecarbineer issues like the carbineerusers do) yet very consise so no one dozes off while reading.

actually the thing about low accuracy depends on the point of view:

if you think that an attack is a single shot then a carbineer should have a high rate of fire and low accuracy,

but if you think that an attack is a burst of bullets then the rate of fire should be lower and accuracy should be higher.

basically i dream of a game system that does not need to help NPCs by giving them ungodly amounts hitpoints, resistances and damage, where there is no need for special damage reductions in PvP...

Well, I hope I did not step on anyone's toes; I was a bit surprised they decided to do this discussion. After all, I would think that is what the Profession forum and the Carbine Correspondent are for. On the other hand, I think the Devs rarely look at the Profession forms, so perhaps a new thread was a good thing.

Having re-read my post and the comments that followed, I feel like I still stand by my opinion there. Yes, I do think ranged AoEs should go away from all classes except Carbineer and Commando. I think that, in the name of Balance, the Devs have fallen into the trasp of trying to give all of the ranged combat classes slightly different flavors of the same attqacks, defenses and special effects. This pretty much removes all class distinction for ALL these professions.

All professions be able to defeat a white-con opponent one-on-one - we should just be doing it in ways that reflect our professions.

Oh, no worries there. I understood the point of this post, and think it's a good idea to remind people of the stuff you're bringing up.

Also, Az, I didn't see you were on Kauri.. Nice to see. Now please tell me you're not a rebel...

I was this ( || ) close to just doing an "I second Az" post, but figured I had the time, so I may as well offer a lot of the same points from a slightly different angle. Something about being constructive, and a conscience, or something like that.

Please write it again Arias. We need good content in these threads and the correspondants are being discouraged from adding their own 2 cents.

The Devs have asked the correspondants to put together a summary of responses. I am going to let that thread go for a few weeks then combine its responses with the distinction thread. Then off to TH private email it goes for distribution to the other Devs. The sooner this is in their hands the better.

A Rebel? Me? Well, I should certainly say not. Now turn around for a few minutes so I can visit the recruiter and switch to overt....

;-)

Alyc Voleslayer

Not at all a rebel on Kauri. Nope, not a bit of it, as far as you know...
