Ive been a master fencer for a long time now, and have tried just about every combat profession in the game. Ive been looking fora ranged combat profession, dont really like pistoleer, and rifles is just a FotM profession, but ive never tried carbines before.
Wondering if its worth going master carbines with BH 0400, or master carbines/master fencer?
Im keeping the rumors of defense stacking being nerfed in the CU in mind, so the fencer mods there probably wouldnt apply while using a carbine, so im not sure if keeping fencer is worth it.
It'd be nice if they gave us some real INFO about the combat upgrade, sometimes i cant help but get tired of the dev's incompetence
A lot of people on my server say that carbines is a complete waste of time and sucks in pvp as well as pve, im not really going along with it. The damage on some of the carbines ive seen on vendors is quite nice, i dont see how they could suck in pvp with that. I guess these people just want to take the easy way out with CM/Rifleman or TKM defense stackers so they can sit there and spam attacks instead of taking a profession that requires a little more skill to win
Just need some advice for a starter carbineer. If i do give up fencer, i'll most likely go BH 0400, Master Carbineer, medic 4440.

I've been a carbineer for some time, and I truely love it. I was Carb 1-4-4-4 and BH 2(almost3)-4-4-0 plus some medic, and had a blast with it. I recently dropped the BH stuff, and started picking up CM, currently Carbs 3-4-4-4 and CM 2-0-1-4. I thought I'd hate the loss of speed, but I still do pretty good. I was up at tusken last night and was soloing multiple chiefs and warlords at the same time. SureI was taking a beating compaired to my TKM/Fencer friend once he showed up,but my armor and buffs kept me well out of any danger zone. 90% of my damge was done with my laser carbine, and the full auto specials (single and area) I only had a 300 health disease and 150 poison so they helped buy were not a deciding factor. If you have the BH line FKD is your best friend, hit them early and get them down! While not as effective as FKD agains MOBs I have found that the Full autos will dizzy quite regularly and a legshot will put them on a knee only to start the flop when they try to get up. If you're playing with tuskens, get them on a knee then run in and they will switch to melee and stand up, flop flop flop, hehe.
I have to say, I really learned something about carbs last night. In the past I I'd go to tusken with my stacker friend and we would just play solo there chating and such. Last night he would run through a group and get them to agro on him then just auto attack, they couldn't hit hit due to his crazy defenses, and I'd just sit back and fire full auto area into the melee, man it was great! They were dropping like flies, I'd do charge2 and send the whole group to the floor, we were luaghing like crazy. It started as a way to get me the most xp, but turned out to be quite a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the next big PvP battle in bestine, I'm gonna be playing my support role like crazy, sitting back laying states and getting the KDs to help the other guys out. On a side note, while CM has a bad rep for the crazy PvP dots, it is pretty cool to hit some guy leveling up with a 1100 heal from down the hall just before he goes down, I've never seen so many "TY TY TY"'s in a night, lol.
Edit - also forgot to mention, do what you thing you will have fun with until the combat changes, the devs have stated there will be a one time skills realocation after it goes live, so if you do carb/fence and find out that the defenses no longer cross you can choose new skills with no grinding!

First and foremost your biggest concern will be speed. Our +60 at master really doesn't cut it at all. There is a very detailed write-up on exactly how it works in the FAQ, definitely worth reading. A lot of players feels it is required to be at or near the speed cap to effective in the game currently. With that in mind you need to basically do one of 2 things.
Firstly like you suggested take up the BH Carbine Tree for the added acc/speed. Which is definitely the easiest and cheapest route to go. Although it does eat up a lot of skill points it will give you access to some extra specials as well. Fire KD has the added bonus of being a KD plus it has a chance to land the dizzy state for example, as opposed to chargeshot which just has a KD. I haven't really seen any proof one way or the other as to which specials are better for states although all the damage vs. reload information is in the FAQ, the spreadsheet will allow you to easily calc you DPS with every special to compare foryourself.
Secondly is a less economical approach. Basically just bite the bullet and shell out credits for +25 in speed and accuracy tapes. That will put you are +85 which you say from the FAQ is a huge leap over +60. Not to mention the skill points you will be saving, not having to pick up master marksman and a tree of scout. So you would be free to keep your fencer skills for both a more versitile combat role as well as the defense boost.

well, decided to go ahead with it.
Ive just mastered marksman, and am gonna grind out about 250k of combat xp with fencer before i give it up for carbines/bounty hunter.
Hopefully in a couple weeks ill be a master carbineer
Im planning on going up the bounty hunter carbines tree first... for the extra speed and accuracy (seems to be a head start on carbines instead of trying to get the same amount of mods in carbineer itself...)
this a good idea? Not a whole lot of attacks that would seem useful for grinding in the BH tree. Best i can think is that ill get combat xp to use the full auto attacks while hunting.

sounds like a good plan to me. Each BH carbine box gives you at leas twice as much speed as the corasponding carbineer box, the third box gives you four times as much, it will make carbs go much faster.

Giving up the Fencer Defenses is tough....I give you lots of credit for wanting to drop that and pick up two profs with basically zero Defense.
Not sure what you plan on using the extra Skill Points for, but dabbling in BH/Carbineer/Pistoleer/Medic would be my recommendation.
