I like messing with templates and trying things out. Looking at the character planning tools the following templates could be interesting ( Primarally for PvE ). Just wondered what you thought :-
Carbineer 2142
Pistoleer 0040
Smuggler 0040
CH 2244
I know it's quite a dabbler template but I think it's got some nice pluses. Good variaty of damage types, loads of states, good state defences and of course a built in tank to allow me to keep my distance. Naturally the speed is on the low side although hopefully I can compencate with some good speed slices and/or speed powerups. Any other thoughts?
Oh the reason for the inclusion of Smuggler is two fold.
1)Gives some good specials for pistols.
2)Fits in with the RP of the char who is a space smuggler.
Pistoleer is there to give me damage types to cover weekness in Carbineer and increase state defences.

Don't know about 2244 ch. Personally I find that I don't use mount command very often, as you will get a good mount. Maybe swap it with the first tree 4242. That way you can command your pet to do special attacks. If done right this can save a lot of damage your pets get.

As probably the biggest advocate of the Carbineer/CH template here, this is what I think:
#1 - Most definitely go up full trees in CH, there is no other logical way to do it. All pet commands can be taught by somebody else.
#2 - Very weak in Carbineer, you need Speed, not Counterattack...but BurstShot2 is good, however I would recommend FullAutoArea2 first
#3 - The Pistoleer Defense Line, 0040, is only for when you are in close combat, which you won't be with CH....complete waste IMO
#4 - RP'ing as a Space Smuggler, while fine, has nothing to do with the ground game....those Specials don't mean much without some more Pistoleer Skills IMO
#5 - Pistoleer for lack of Damage Types in Carbineer just means you can go play with very high-end stuff....but while you could damage that content, it will most certainly kill you long before you put any noticeable dent in it.
I love the Carbineer/CH part, but you have severly gimped that combo by dabbling in Pistoleer and Smuggler.
Of course if you think it will be fun, then by all means try it....SWG is great for allowing unlimited changes to one's template to find what YOU LIKE

Regarding smuggler, I believe there are some station missions which require ground smuggler ( talus I think ). If that's the case then ground smuggler does have some influence on space. Could I guess drop to nov smuggler just for that ability and drop pistoleer - putting the points into Carbineer and/or CH.

I am not 100% sure, but I can't imagine anything in JTL that requires Smuggler....there is a reason the Smuggler Community is all mad about JTL content not being for them ![]()

I have checked and talus does indeed have missions where you must be a ground smuggler. However they are apparantly no different to the other missions.
Much as I love pistols ( and don't totally agree that 0040 is uselss as it's the line I level first when on pistols ) I think I will bulk up Carbineer, maybe supplimenting with BH Carbines.

Exactly, Smuggler is not required for anything in JTL.....this discussion has been covered at great length in other places
The Pistoleer Defenses XX4X and even XX44 are not useful with CH in your template, otherwise they are VERY USEFUL if it is your only defense.
BH Carbines is almost a requirement of this prof if you don't have SEA's and/or FS Melee Speed.

Know that feeling, my first love is pistols ( in the combat front ) and works best with BH Pistols plus the dirty fighting line of Smuggler.
