There is still some confusion, especially with newer players concerning armor rating vs armor piercing.
I would really recommend browsing the sticky of this forum and following the links to research this. And this is why,
We have guns upto medium AP, but the medium gun is energy, so its often tempting to hit the examine button, see a vuln to acid or heat and let rip with the ee3 or dxr6. However, this can sometimes be a bad move. You see, vulns offer no resistence to armor weapons, but also no bonuses.
So On that 20% energy resist light armor critter with a vuln to acid, its actually better to the laser. Crazy huh, but its works. The laser gets +25% damage, -20% for the resist = 5% bonus(and lasers are genmerally the best damage)
And another case, the AR is light, and the energy is 60%!! ouch, but the heat is only 20% Hmmm, i will go for the heat. That would be a mistake. Have a read, our stickies are great. -50% for the ee3, and +25% for the laser. It makes a big difference, more so if you are not speed capped, which many are not.
Don't always use the Laser though, try the ee3 on a SMC dragoon and see em die quicker than the guy who spills Vaders morning coffee.
Its really worth checking out, Using the wrong weapon can halve your potential damage. And in that extra 10 secs a force choke or special can make a clone out of you. Its all in the numbers.

Very nice......and READ THE FAQ is always a good thing....we have most ALL questions answered in there for the noobs and old timers......
