Thread: Be Careful with FullAutoArea in PvP
A couple of days ago we had a big fight in Coronet with something like 20 Rebels vs. 20 Imperials outside the capital building. The Imperials were massing down the street and only had one way into the courtyard. So I'm thinking, "This is the time for the Carbineer to lay down serious hurt!" I behind the majority of the Rebels in the courtyard where I have a 50m shot on the entryway, go prone, and take cover. My plan is to start spamming Full Auto Area into the Imperials while they are bunched up in the doorway so that I can damage as many as possible. This is what we are supposed to be best at right?
Well, the Imperials come, I start firing, and all hell breaks loose. Even though I'm to the rear of the group of Rebels, almost every Imperial in the first group fires at me! I have like six or seven people firing at me and I get dropped in like4 seconds.
So what happened? I finally figured it out after the battle. When you shoot at someone who doesn't have anyone targeted, you automatically become their target and they autofire back at you. Shooting Full Auto Area into a group of players who are not already actively engaged, just gets you targeted by all of them at once. I think that this is a serious drawback in the game mechanics and severly limits the Carbineer's ability to perform crowd control.
Then I checked my combat log to see how I did. Did I at least do any damage? Even though there were 6-7 Imperials all in a tight group I never hit more than two of them in one shot. It didn't even register missing on most of them. I almost hit more buildings than I did players. Yes, the combat window said things like "You hit medium building for xxx damage." Out of2 Full Auto Area shots into the group I hit a total of3 people and2 buildings.
I'mbeginning to seriously regret giving up Bounty Hunter (0-4-0-0) for Carbineer(0-2-0-2).
I was much more effective before.
sigh...
Yet another reason why AoE skills are largely useless....
im curious, what is the radius of FAA and FAA2? the reason y i ask is because i am a pistoleer (0/0/4/1)now and im looking for something to help me out a bit on poisons. im a big fan of AoE and have played the classes in every game i can. Im just trying to decide if I should go with carbines for it or head over to rifle and get Flurryshot 2 for my AoE ![]()
Well, that's why the title is "Be Careful" rather than "Don't Use". ![]()
It is still a useful tool, but having to wait till everyone has engaged other targets makes it more limited. The targets spread out so you can't hit more than one or two and you lose the ability to break up an assault early.
The reason I went prone first was to increase my rate of fire and get better accuracy. After giving up all my Bounty Hunter Carbine skill modifiers to speed and accuracy, I feel painfully slow and can't seem to hit the side of a barn.
I'll stay with Carbineer for now; hopefullly we'll get some love from the DEVs soon to balance HAM costs, damage output, and special attacks.
My vision of Carbine PvP after they fix Carbineer:
5 people all bunched up
Carbineer walks up and fires a full auto area 2, hoping that he dizzies them
Carbineer then fires off a charge shot 2 after dizzying them
Carbineer fires off an action shot 2(if its spread) and starts spamming legshot 3 and/or full auto area 2
Carbineer DBs all five people
Everyone yells for nerf:'(
I'm primarily a Ranger. Carbineer is my secondary.
I have found Full Auto Area useful in hunting. Shoot at the animals once and then moveaway. All the animals come running after you and bunch up in a nice tight group. Pretty good for speeding up hunting around lairs oflow level creatures.
The problem wasn't with the special or the combat system, you just got trigger happy too early in the battle. I LOVE full auto area and I use it ALL the time, but I've learned as you just did that you need to allow your targets to engage something else before using it. And it makes sense if you think about it. How unbalanced would it be if you could just lay there and toast 7-8 people and they didn't know who it was that was firing out of the group of 20 people you were in. They have to have a chance to fight back against something that powerful, hence the auto-target feature of the combat system.
Just learn to use FA in moderation and only break it out when you know you have em dead to rights. Combat is supposed to be more about tactics than just pulling the trigger.
