Thread: Worth Giving Up Novice Pistoleer To Be Able To Call Two Pets?

I think I almost have my wookiee character built just like I want. I am CH 2/2/0/2 right now. I want to be 3/3/0/3 so I can call a grand wrix and greater sludge panther at the same time. I figure that would be the best CL 45 combo available (let me know if there's a better one).

I'm also a Novice BH with LLC4 - I'm never giving that up, lol.

I'm also a Novice Rifleman, Novice Pistoleer and Novice Carbineer. I use my rifles a lot and my carbines some. Don't use pistols much, when I do, it's always the Scatter.

And finally, I'm a Novice Medic with First Aid 1 & 2 and Diagnostic 1. I love those fast heals in the wilderness and I don't want to give that up, either.

So my thought is this - give up Novice Pistoleer and get the 9 skill points I need to max out at 250 and have CM 3/3/0/3. Is it worth giving up Novice Pistoleer to do this?

You'll loose the pistol mods that you get from Novice Pistoleer, which I believe affect Scatter, but if you only rarely use ut, why not? You can always try to get it back if you don't like how it turns out.

Depends on what you really want to do. You could use your two pets to tank for you while you use your LLC. LLC is very devastating up close and if you have a tank, then things are looking your way. I think that good enough pets can replace a pistol if you plan on using the LLC religiously and no longer require a serious ranged weapon. I would keep a sidearm to use skills such as warning shot, but it's really up to you.

SOJ, this was my intial thought on the whole thing, but a lot of folks say use the pistol up close with Health shot 1 & 2. This way, with my pets hitting health and me hitting health, the critters would die quicker.

Trying this out in the field last night, I still found my LLC up close (depending on the creature of course) killed faster than the pistol. LLC4 is a commando-strength weapon.

However, some creatures are highly resistant to electricity, so I have to keep some other shooting skills. I only need 6 skill points to do what I want with CH, so I only need to give up one of these:

1. Novice Pistoleer

2. Novice Rifleman

3. Novice Carbineer

I've already given up Novice Carbineer once and they got it back, lol, so I don't like the idea of letting that go.

I also like the option of using a T21 and mind shot 1.

Since my pets already hit the Health Bar, why not ditch Novice Pistoleer? I'd still have all the bars covered.

Well, it's up to you. For those electric resistant creatures, you could use the scatter and Body Shot 2, since that seems to be the best DPS pistol health focused skill along with the health shots. However, without Novice Pistoleer, you won't lose much speed and accuracy and you can still use Health Shot 1 and Body Shot 2. Since your speed mods are pretty low, you might want to try out some low speed FWG5's or Scouts, too but not neccessary unless you have to use the pistol to kill a creature. I think that another pet is worth giving up Novice Pistoleer, but then again, I'm not a CH.

That's the question, lol. Is it worth giving up Novice Pistoleer to be able to call a grand wrix and Greater Sludge Panther at the same time? I'm not going up the CH tree enough to be able to call two big pets at the same time, such as two graul maulers, so that's why there's not a clear cut solution, really.

I could just stick with bringing out big creatures and nailing them with the pistol and health shot 1 & 2. Perhaps that would be just as effective.

I know bringing outtwo CL 16-17 creatures would not be as effective as one big one, so that's out.

If I don't pursue this, then I have to look elsewhere to spend my last 3 skill points.

Well, I don't really know how much of a benefit that extra monster would be and if you are doing good enough as it is right now. You could always just go with trial and error, dump Novice Pistoleer and pick up that pet.. and it if seems to now work as well, just get Novice Pistoleer again. That is to say that if you are not doing well right now or etc.

funny how we're talking about pistols in this forum... so to steer the discussion back to carbines: i am thinking of similar changes to my character. as master CH and master carbineer, i can call very tough pets into a battle. i can then support them with my (as we all know) meager carbine strength.

i have been contemplating dropping much of carbineer and CH in order to get the BH carbine line. this will have the effect of weakening my pets, but giving a boost to my carbine.

so my question is this: what is more fearsome to you?
1) a gurreck (11300HAM 500 damage) with a carbineer using charge shot and crippleshot.
or
2) a grand wrix (6500HAM 210 damage) with a BH using fireknockdown and crippleshot.

it's a tough call for me, but i tend to think that the changes looming in the future might favor staying with option 1 for now.

Well, I was talking about Novice Pistoleer because he was thinking about dropping it in exchange...

As for your question, WTS, it depends on what you want to do. In PVP, I'd think that the BH one is more fearsome since dizzy is pretty darn cheap once it gets on you.. you won't be able to get up for a bit, and charge shot can't keep a PC down , but you could keep using it on them. For PVE, they both have problems keeping a MOB down, since Dizzy doesn't work on MOBs. Also, if you gave up a few carbine skills, and kept your carbine speed mods, you could hit the 1s cap by getting BH Carbine 3. However, I don't know how long the 1s cap will remain. But these are possibilities.
