Thread: Dabbling in Carbineer... How much is enough?

Quick question and please don't crucify me for being a dabbler I'm a Commando/CH who is forced to solo a lot due to family, job, etc. One of the big drawbacks of Commando is the lack of armor piercing. Our only armor piercing weapons are disposable and ridiculously expensive and hard to find.

I've been running into a lot of medium armor mobs lately and was wondering if picking up a few boxes of carbineer would help? I'd drop a bleed (launcher pistol), flame DoT, and then pull out the laser carbine to punch through the medium armor. Is this viable? If so, how much carbineer would you suggest I get, at a minimum, and which boxes? Thanks a lot for the replies!

By the way, I'm a 4/4/1/4 CH, Novice Medic, and 0/3/4/0 Commando. I'd be more than willing to drop a little Commando and/or CH to pick up a good armor piercing weapon.

I would argue that "novice carbineer" is enough, carbineer being one of the few professions which has new and useful things at all levels. Then the counter argument would be that since there is useful things everywhere, only 4444 carbineer is enough, and by that point you might as well master it. A more serious answer is that two skill trees it would probably suit you well. 4400 for speed and accuracy, or maybe 4004 or 0404 for knockdown. However, the more carbineer you can get the better.

Keep in mind though that carbineer is of limited usefulness in very high end PvE content (immunity to damage and immunity to states). I would say that pistoleer might be more dabble friendly, but I'm not sure about that.

You can find more information about this (and many other things you mind not have even thought to ask about) in the FAQ though. I believe there is a segment there about what skill boxes to get if you aren't mastering carbineer (which may or may not match what I said).

Not giving you a hard time, but dabbling in carb = death unless you already have BH carbs. If you absolutely must dabble I would go for speed first as that is what I would be looking for with the slower commando weapons.

Again mastering it is the only way I would go with it. Best of luck.

Againspeed and accuracy will be a problem unless you work right up the first two trees (respectively). Even then speed may be an issue. It would be worth picking up the first rank of the either the 3rd or 4th trees (for burst shot or full auto single 2) in order that you have a decent damage multiple on one of your specials.

Both of these target health so should be compatible with flame dots etc. Burst Shot does more damages, FAS2 gives the chance to inflict states (and I think is is slightly faster - the FAQ will confirm this though).

Action Shot 2 at novice carbineer may also have some use for you, as it is an AOE with posture down - although again accuracy will be crucial in getting any posture change to stick.
