Hi there guys, I've been a pistoleer / smuggler with another char, now im looking to build up this character, with a artisan profession (architect) and a little merchant to get a shop going (then shipwright instead of architect when JTL comes out).

I plan on doing pilot too, if that doesnt work on the same skill pts as normal...

However, I want 1 combat prof, and prefer to use ranged than melee......

As I've done pistoleer, I fancy doing either carbineer or rifleman.

I can see the point of rifleman in PVP, as it can do alot of dam to the mind pool, and has some nice defence, however, I fancy doing carbineer more, however I feel it isnt that much good, standalone in pvp.

I dont plan on solo-pvping, more of a group activity, as well as the usual krayt hunt / corvette and dungons.

Would carbineer be worth doing for these types of missions?

Half way through reading this I said to myself, man Carbineer is a horrible choice. And I have no problem NOT recommending Carbineer, but for group support in PvP it is very nice.

Standalone in PvP with that template you would flat out suck, but being in a group you should enjoy yourself a lot. That is not to say your are as important as a Doc or CM, but the ability to apply States and Cone Effect Specials in PvP is very nice. Of course there are those uber PvP templates out there that will 99% resist your States but that can't be helped by much of any template really.

I recommend Carbineer in this situation as long as you have a group/tank in PvE and PvP, otherwise you won't have much fun being a Carbineer

When I do high level activities like krayts and thecorvette, I don't really use my carbine soI can't speak to that. However, from what I have heard, if you want to do high end content (read: fighting big creatures, which may or may not be "content"), carbineers are of limited usefulness at best. Many of them have incredibly high resistances to carbineer's three damage types, and are basically immune to states.

If you want to do these kinds of activities with any regular basis, you might want to look for a different profession.

Of course it is worth doing....Carbineers are the State effects applied to the Crowds we control type profession.

We are the Machine gunners of SWG. I have been a Master Carbineer since a few weeks after launch and have never dropped it ever since then. I have made many carbicide's in my day's but I have also had many triumphs over stunned people at our wide range of abilities.

Rifleman is a FOTM right now, but after the combat revamp you'll probably see almost none. Pool specific attacks are going to get nerfed, as will their speed bonuses that let them shoot so quickly.

However, carbineer will likely be a monster once resists in armor are reduced. The problem is that it's very centered on knowing what to do in the right situation...not just spamming KD until you get someone down, then spooling up some attack. For this reason most people don't like it. I only had it for about a month while I was working on some crafting stuff, but I really liked it.

As far as large game like kryats or battle droids........no. Riflemen will be good for those for a while, but in a while neither will be of much use alone on such ventures. I'm afraid large game will mainly become a matter of laying on a DOT and default attacking until it wears off.

carbineer is more personal preference. i enjoy helping out my group, with areastatus and kd accounts. if you want to just solo everything then just be a rifleman, but being a carbineertakes much more stradegy and skill. unlike rifleman all of our weapons are used in different situations, and all specials can be utilized with fairly good success.also since capping rarely happens youdon't have to be so dissapointed with a speed slice and you can have fun making a carbine SEA outfit to complete your skills. so if you want pure power be arifleman, if you want good defence be a pistoleer and if you want stradegy and skill bea carbineer,

Master Carbineer is very worth it. Sure we are broke, but if you put some effort behind it instead of spamming 'teh win' special and bitching and moaning about how we are so broken, you can do very well. I dont do alot of pve, I make credits selling bulk resources, so cant really comment on pve much. We are more powerful in solo pvp then people give us credit for. We are far from pvp gods, a melee/doc will still rip you a new ass. In groups... well no need to comment on our usefulness there hehe.
