I dropped my old melee template, Master Doctor/Master Swordsman to try ranged. The template I am currently working on is Master Carbineer/Master Squad Leader/CM 4000. I know this may not be the best available template but I love squad leader and was a melee SL before the CU. What do you guys think of this template and also with this template what carbine should I use? I know E11's and Elites are about the same but what about the E5?

I'm a similar build to yours, except I went with 1/4/0/0 BH and some FS skills instead of CM. IMHO my template is pretty good, especially in a group. You get 2 high powered single target attacks (Leg and Critical, a single target kd along with a long single target snare, two Area Attacks to alternate with(Full Auto and Spray), and an area snare(Suppression Fire). Add in the passive SL mods and Rally/Volley Fire and your sustained damage is impressive(though very few realize this). With a probot with me, there is very little in the game I haven't solo'd with only using stim Ds.

As far as the E5 goes, it's very similar to an Elite or E11, same caps I believe.

As far as PvP goes I sit back directing fire and keeping targets marked Volley Fire all while usually firing off the area attacks. As long as there are docs/CMs in the group watching me I hold my own, until we either win the battle or the opposition realizes what I'm doing and ignore the jedi and riflemen in our group and go to town on me Either way, it's usually a good time.

The effect that a talented squad leader can have in PvP and high end PvE is hard to overstate. A group with an SL onboard that knows how to work the profession is much more effective in general. I think it sounds like a very interesting template, and a fun one

Thank you guys! I am new to ranged, having dropped melee a few days ago and I am kinda lost lol, just not used to it but I am getting there. So far I have found ranged more enjoyble than melee but that is just my opinion. Thanks for the input again.

The combo is great. I personally run MSL/Mcarb/Novice BE and it works out perfectly fine. It's not the best duel combo, although it's also not totally helpless. (As an interesting sidenote, i up to now never lost a duel to a BH... each and any of them underestimated me and took some serious beating after having volley fire on him. On the other hand, saber-throwing Jedi get me almost any time, still have to work on that...)

In mass-PvP it's absolutely great, and your build with CM inside will have significant better healing than my character, making it even more powerful and giving it greater survivability. (The one and only reason why i have BE instead of CM is that i need it for slicing bases...)

And on the E5, it indeed can compete with the best, takes 3 power handlers (so, krayting is affordable) and can match up with the E11 Mk. 2 and Elite pretty fine. (I got me one, capped on damage and almost capped on SAC... and that was with mediocre tissue...)
