Shoot Stuff, Stay Alive, Get XP
First of all get the highest level carb you can use (take skill boxes into account as well though), if you're going grinding at the Mining Outpost/Lok/Yavin or where ever your servers choice of grinding spots is then take a few of those carbines with you, try and get as low a SAC as possible on them so you don't run out of action during a long grinding session. There's also a handy sticky at the top of the thread list with a nice path guide to master carbineer so best read it

Don't EVER spam AoE attacks against enemies unless you are:
a) One of two people attacking the 10-14 NPC spawn that has been drawn to you on a base raid, in which case face AWAY from all other mobs and spam it. You'll draw aggro either way.
b) Doing it for the hell of it on your own.
Don't spam it if you're in a group and people will actually try to help you, leading to the incapping of everyone in your group.
Also, you'll learn to absolutely love Charge Shot. It's great if you're faction-aligned and trying to kill guards in cities. It certainly helped when I was a Novice and trying to stay alive as an Imperial Combatant in Eisley.
