Thread: Carabine = fun
I see some complaining, but you guys haven't seen a broken/difficult class until you've seen rifleman. You take 2.5x more damage from melee, you fire slow, you miss a lot even at high levels, your accuracy modifier goes into fits a lot and I dont think I've ever seen a +50 which you could only come close to at 60 meters, you do low DPS and drain and unhealable pool.
Even as a Novice rifleman with 2 levels in sniping accuracy and the best attack (Headshot3) I still get owned by dark blue con melee mobs because I can't hit them when they get close to me. You have no chance against 2 white con mobs whatsoever if you dont one-shot them before they close on you.
But with my new carabiner, only lvl 2 marksman, i am regularly killing tons of blue cons and white cons and I see a +50 modifier all the time. You can even shoot while moving and hit them!
Moral of the story: no matter how bad you may think things are, at least you're not a rifleman ![]()
-=OOce=-
A) switch to pistoleer or BH..he has a ton invested in combat medic
B) quit the game outright.
somehow, I think he may be hapoier as a BH...dunno... maybe I'll try and turn him to the Carbine...

the con-level of mobs are tied directly to your level of skill with the weapon you have equipped. how many boxes of rifle and how many boxes of carbine do you have? at some point, durni's will be dark-blue con to you. this does NOT mean they are hard to kill. please give a description of the type of mobs in question.
we take more damage from melee'rs than pistols. rifles have it the worst by FAR, though...been there, done that, not goin' back. carbines fire faster than rifles, true...but a master rifleman will fire faster than a master carbineer. fact, not speculation. umm, i think up until that point that carbineers remain either faster or the same. as far as accuracy...i NEVERsee over a +30. (3 boxes from master carbineer...and i have master marksman too. the 3 boxes i'm missing are 1 from special abilities, and 2 from the counterattack tree.) erm, that was before i picked up bh carbine skills, btw. and that was me prone, and it sitting, at 60m, witha laser carb. dps...i really don't know/remember how it varies between carbineer/rifleman. the main way to get our dps up, though, is with specials that hit random pool and take a chunk. your main way is to use a special that hits only mind, but takes a large chunk of your mind to use. tough call, in my opinion, so i won't.
we have damned near no chance against 2 white-con mobs at the higher-end levels unless we one- or two-shot them. (ie, pc + cripple). you try fighting two mountain squills at the same time solo...not gonna be pretty =) again, thoguh..same arg as above about the cons. before you go telling us how great we are and how bad riflemen are, please present enough information to draw an accurate comparison/contrast.
i have no clue how you have a +50 accuracy while moving, and think that you're exaggerating the truth there. maybe you just have some uber type of carbine with insane accuracy i've never seen before. i don't know.
moral of the story: i know that i, personally, am glad i'm not a rifleman. i don't like rifles (not just swg, but in general) but i do like machine-guns. why i went with carbines. however, since there are more riflemen than carbineers (look at the top5 professions...riflemen were #4 as i recall, and carbineers not on the top5 populated or top5 least populated) and carbineers aren't at the bottom of the pile, we're unlikely to get ANY love...until we meet one of those two criteria. (top5 = lots of people to keep happy, bottom5 = profession is crap; lets find out why and fix it.)
Normally I hate to jump on a bandwagon but here I am.
I just recently dropped Rifleman because I can do more DPS without mastering carbine than I could when I had RM just short of mastered and with less risk.Rifleman was the most frustrating class and next to useless in PVE groups because no one was touching mind but me and maybe some random hit shots. I'm not really into PvP which is where I suppose the RM is the most useful but if you think Carbs get screwed by BH, I have one command for you "/eyeshot". RM damage mind and take about half that damage back on thier mind, BH damage mind for cost on Action. Action can be healed. Hell, as a Carbiner I don't need to be a Doc or a CM, I just need novice medic skills to heal up once or twice a battle.
Being a Carbineer has been satifying and I have visited the cloning center maybe 2 times total since I picked up a carb. Whereas I used to die at least once a night as a RM.
