Thread: Random pool attacks over action-specific attacks?

Why do people use attacks like full auto and burst shot that hit random pools as opposed to legshot2 which hits only one pool and drops the mob faster? With random pool attacks you have a chance of hitting any of the HAM bars. And why use action shot to bleed their action pool if you're going to hit them with random pool attacks anyway?

Just something i was wondering about.. thx

Sometimes, in a group thats' pistoleer heavy, you'll want to use a random pool attack over an action pool targeted attack to hit theHealth bar.


I find that Burst shothits health almost 60%-70% of the time for me, so my group (almost all pistoleers)tends to drop mobs quite fast when I use it. Otherwise, they plink away at health while I plink away at action and it's a race to see who kills the mob first....we could kill two mobswith health damage in the time it takes todrop one if I focus on action.

Also, our random pool attacks are far more damaging than legshots. Hell, fullautosingle2 is almost twice as damaging, which comes darn close to making up for the spread over (mostly) 2 bars. Likewise with burstshot1. Blind (or lower HAM for burst) pushes it over the edge, for me, so I don't use legshot much unless the first fullauto almost kills something action, in which case I clear my combat queue and tap off a legshot.

In PvP sometimes against an opponent who can heal (particularly with doctor buffs) a random pool attack is the only thing you can use. The only way you can win is to take down their mind.

The main reason why I use specials like scattershot 2 and burstshot over legshot is that legshots require much more mind compared to scattershot and the burst. I usually start out with actionshot to give them a bleed, then I fire scattershot 2 and if action gets low then I use legshot. I generally don't use legshot unless the action pool is down to about 10-20%.

well, every time i use burst **edit** it always hits the health bar. I thought thats what it is suppose to do. Other then burst shot i love scatter shot 2. it does massive damage, im getting between 1200 and 2400 damage with it. so it really dosnt matter what pool it hits. and atleast for me, it seems that it takes eitehr a huge hit to one pool ( usually health, sometimes action, only seen it hit mind like once ) or a good amount out of all 3 pools.

i wish we got a nice action special, a burstshot damage special that always hits action, would be enough to save this proffession i think

I mix it up. I use random pool attacks because they do more. When the mob gets low on action I'll pop a legshot or 2 in there or if they get low on another pool I'll use scatter shot to hit all the HAM pools.

Maybe if they got around to fixing legshot3 - or is it supposed to be identical to legshot2?

Unfortunately Legshot3 is being ruined. Its going to become a cone skill...

I'll take my chances firing off burst shots instead of legshot3's. Burst does a ton more damage, so even landing one of them to the action pool is worth 3-4 Legshots sometimes....AND it recharges faster and uses less HAM.

as a beginning carbineer...legshot2 is a wonderful special. it just doesn't do near enough damage to compensate for the ham costs for using it on mobs with 10k+ ham bars. on those mobs, you HAVE to use normal attacks as well (or be buffed to all holy hell and back again) and the normals hit random pool. so do our most damaging specials. both have a higher likelihood of hitting health than anything else (its like a 50/30/20 health/action/mind i think..) so it makes more sense to use the heavy-hitters and normal attacks to drop a mob instead of spamming legshot2 and getting the mobs action halfway down before yours is all the way gone, and you end up dropping it from health damage anyway.
