About 6 or so posts down is a thread called "guide to mastering carbineer" or something like that. I suggest you read it.

You might want to start with "Novice Marksman"

ok, get the best lase rcarb you can, they are killers in PvE, second you are going to need food or doc buffs, one or another way you MUST have buffs.
i would start with the tree that gives speed bonuses

I just grinded carbineer, and never stopped using my Laser Carbine. It was sliced for speed, and ended up like 2.4spd 50-300dmg. I also never stopped useding FAS2 (/fullAutoSingle2) which you get at Novice Carbineer.
For trees I had tons of combat xp stored so did the 0004 column first, then went for 4004 for the speed mods (not *much* difference). I then did 4044 for counter-attack bonuses (quite handy, I'm sure its changed to be like dodge - don't recall not taking damage before when counter-attacking). Finally did 4444 with the crippling shot tree (too slow IMO).
The best tip I can give you is to always always always kneel before you attack a creature. For one you get the accuracy bonus, but most importantly you get the cover bonus (i.e. they don't "see" you and attack immediately, you get anywhere from 3-5 shots off before they even start to run to you). This applies for ANY ranged profession btw. I was killing them more or less before they even got close to me - I never healed myself once throughout the grind (granted I had buffs and kinetic armor, but thats a must anyway if you're grinding).
I tried all the other specials, but none seemed as quick as FAS2. Its a little frustrating hitting random pools sometimes, but that happens with the majority of none pool specific specials (although crippling shot seems to hit health more than anything).
One thing to watch out for is using your legshot2 if you're trying to bleed. First thing which took me by suprise is that its an area attack, and secondly its also a posture down attack. So its really good for crowd control, and I found those hit by it "delayed" attacking after standing up (never seen them do this with other posture down attacks).
Really fun profession though - the state attacks are just amazing, its ideal against NPCs.

Yes...laser carbine is good, but I'm about to finish Master Carbineer and I've made a whole lot more use of a DXR6 than the laser carbine. (Burned up 2 so far...hehehe). Granted it's a little slower but most of the creatures I've been hunting have a lower resist to the acid than anything else. Toss in a 43% speed slice and 30% speed couplers and I've got a 2.1 165-220 damage with a 30% wound chance. *shivers*

Manoc, the highest possible slice on a weapon is a 35% increase.
