Thread: when AP doesn't matter?

My question is pretty simple: Has anybody done any comprehensive weaponsmith testing with all of the carbines? I see lots of testing on which specials do exactly how much dmg vs Armor+Shield Generators+mitigation etc. but i'm really interested in knowing if anyone has done any testing with identical (or as close to it as possible) quality components.

I've seen the posts where they are all generally described as weak/strong etc. but i haven't yet found any resource which directly compares actual dmg numbers with equivalent components. Am I missing something somewhere? has this experiment been done? if not are there any weaponsmiths lurking that could help a carbineer out?

Weapon AP kicks in when your target has at least light armor on. It is not taken into account when your target is unarmored.

Actually AP/AR ratio is ignored on a Vulnerable Resist.....

And I tested the AP2 Laser vs. unarmored critters and you do get the modifier.....

But it is not ignored if you have some resists in it, right?

For example say you have a PSG with about 25% energy resist. Someone fires at you with a heavy AP T21. First he would gain a factor of 1.25^2=1.56 because of AP3 vs AR1, then 25% percent would be taken off, so after the shot went through the PSG it is at 1.17, that is the damage increased by 17% because you were wearinga shiled.

Seems very much like a PSG issomething you do not want to wear all the time...

Could it be considered only in pvp then ?

I know I readsomewhere on the AS forums thatvulnerable armor to a specific damage type is like not wearing armor at all against that damage type. Plus, as an MBH against jedi (i.e. unarmored opponents), I get aprox. the same results when shooting a scatter (ap1)or a geo blaster (ap0), both having aprox the same stats. I took the pistol example, because LC and eliteshave too different damage areas.

Using a PSG is a bit tricky, not sure how the code works with those exactly....but your example would be correct on armor with those numbers.

But something we could look into....
