Krayt tissue is looted from Krayt Dragons, which are found on tatooine. It is an optional component that a weaponsmith adds to the guns power handlers which can greatly enhance its stats. Krayt dragons are high level creatures that should only be messed with by an experienced player, or a group of players. High kinetic resist armor is a must as are doctor buffs and foods.
All Krayt tissue has two benefits (the degree of the enhancement varies), the first being a damage increase and the second being a speed reduction. The most basic Krayt tissue and most commom gives a +30 damage and -0.3 speed reduction. These tissues can be found quite easily and for rather cheap. I have personally seen an exceptional tissue that gave a damage increase of over 150. A tissue with such stats is extremely rare and extremely pricey.
Another thing you should know is that different carbines take a different amount of krayt tissues, all of which must have the same serial number, to make. I believe the E11 takes 1 tissue, the Laser carbine takes 4 tissues, the Elite carbine takes 5 tissues, the EE3 takes 5 tissues and the DXR6 takes 6 tissues. The most tissues required the more difficult and expensive the gun is to have krayted.
I would suggest that you start out with a Krayt E11 carbine, because its the easiest to get the amount of tissues for (only 1 remember) which makes it the perfect carbine for those on a budget.
I hope that helped

Krayt tissues are hardly a necessity. You can find very good laser carbines without Krayt tissues. I am only pursuing one at this point because I have all of the stuff I really need for PvP and now I am just throwing money around. Any carbine over 400 max damage will get the job done if you have good technique.

For Carbineers, the krayt tissues are more for getting weapon speed down to cappable levels, since the damage increase is fairly marginal.
