From what I remember, they are pretty much the same as your standard dh-17. I'll check them again tonight, but I don't believe there are any specials or dots on them.

Hey all,
I looted a couple polished black dh-17 carbines. Being just one box shy of MC and 12x3 in BH I figured I would be certified to use this, especially given that the dh-17 cert is novice marksman. However, when I equip it I'm given the standard "You can't use this weapon properly" message. I looked through some previous posts on the subject and it appears these were unusable in the past. Well, it appears they are still unusable in the present.
Are these just wall-hangers? Are they collector's items?
Thanks

Two whole minutes to reply?? And you call yourself the Carbineer Correspondent...
Thanks man. Guess I'll hang them on the wall along with the other assorted weapons in my "Armory Room."

I have one too, nothing special about it. I just put it in storage as my "collector's item."

Can't you still equip it and fire it? Granted, your accuracy will be bad, and the damage, a joke (but who cares, its a DoT).. but supposing it did hit with the default attack.. wouldn't the DoT stick?
