Carbineers get a lot of nice shots to be honest. The best thing you can do is take some time and read the Carbineer FAQ page located HERE (click me). I could go through all of them, but this FAQ page includes the combines knowledge of nearly the entire carbineer community, and it would be a great place for you to start.

Best place to look at is here.

What shot is "best" depends on the situation, if you refer to damage output, go with legshot, squeeze in rapid fire and scatter shot while legshot is in cooldown.
